Is XT.COM Safe? Is It a Scam? Proof of Reserves and Security Record Review (2026)

Updated Rules checked 2026-10-13

Whether XT (XT.COM) is safe can’t be answered in one sentence; what you can look at is the record it has left. On 2024-11-28, assets were moved out of an XT platform wallet abnormally, and a security firm estimated the loss at about USD 1.7 million; XT said users were not affected. Its latest proof of reserves (PoR) is dated 2026-10-07, with BTC, ETH and USDT reserve ratios all between 111% and 113%. On the regulatory side, Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has blocked XT since 2025-06-28.

Auto fee rebate (fee discount)Futures 60%, Spot 35%

On fees, XT’s 0.2% spot fee is in the highest tier among the 13 exchanges this site covers, while its futures fees, 0.02% Maker and 0.06% Taker, sit in the middle. If you use it from Taiwan, note that XT is not on the anti-money laundering (AML) registration list of Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), so if something goes wrong you can’t turn to Taiwan’s investor protection mechanisms.

This article doesn’t give star ratings. It collects fees, referral rebates, reserves, security incidents, restricted regions and products in one place, with a source for every number. For sign-up steps and the referral code, see XT referral code.

Key points: For regular XT users (VIP 0), spot Maker and Taker fees are both 0.2%, or 0.15% with XT platform token deduction turned on; USDT-margined perpetual futures are 0.02% Maker and 0.06% Taker. XT’s 2026-10-07 proof of reserves shows reserve ratios of 112.67% for BTC, 111.19% for ETH and 112.73% for USDT, but the 2026-07-04 and 2026-08-05 reports list exactly the same amounts. On 2024-11-28, assets were moved out of an XT platform wallet abnormally; PeckShield estimated about USD 1.7 million, while XT put it at about 1 million USDT and said users were not affected. I couldn’t find the date withdrawals resumed. XT’s user agreement prohibits users in the United States, Canada, mainland China, Singapore and other places, and Thailand’s SEC has separately blocked XT since 2025-06-28. As of the list updated by Taiwan’s Securities and Futures Bureau (SFB) on 2026-09-29, XT is not on the FSC’s AML registration list.

The data below was checked against official pages on 2026-10-13 (the data check date) and is provided for reference.

What are XT’s fees?

XT’s spot market makes no Maker/Taker distinction: VIP 0 pays 0.2% either way. On futures, the Taker fee is 3 times the Maker fee. The table shows the official VIP 0 rates:

MarketMakerTakerWith platform token deductionSource
Spot0.2%0.2%0.15% (25% off with XT deduction)XT fee schedule page
USDT-margined perpetual futures0.02%0.06%No futures discount listed officiallyXT VIP fee tier announcement
USDT/USDC spot pair0%0%Not applicableXT USDT/USDC zero-fee announcement

Fees checked on 2026-10-11. In real amounts: with 100,000 USDT of spot volume a month, VIP 0 pays 200 USDT, or 150 USDT with XT deduction; the same volume on an exchange charging 0.1% for spot costs 100 USDT. On futures, 300,000 USDT a month, all taker orders, costs 300,000 × 0.06% = 180 USDT, and all maker orders cost 60 USDT. XT’s VIP 1 futures threshold is low: 200,000 USDT of futures volume in 30 days is enough to upgrade, which brings Taker down to 0.054%, so the same 300,000 USDT costs 162 USDT. Across all 13 exchanges, with 1 million USDT of futures volume a month, all taker orders, XT charges 600 USDT, the same tier as Bitget, KuCoin and HTX; MEXC charges 200 USDT, Binance and OKX 500 USDT, and WEEX 800 USDT (lowest-fee crypto exchanges).

Futures fees are charged on position value, regardless of leverage. Opening a 10x position with 1,000 USDT of margin gives a 10,000 USDT position, and the Taker fee to open and close is 12 USDT, or 1.2% of your margin. With leverage, if the market moves against you, the position may be forcibly liquidated. VIP thresholds, XT deduction and withdrawal fees are covered in full in XT fees explained. To work out trading fees and funding fees together, use the perpetual futures cost calculator.

How much is the XT referral rebate, and has it changed?

Sign up to XT with a referral code and the exchange’s automatic fee rebate is currently Futures 60%, Spot 35%, paid to your spot account the day after you trade (T+1). You can find it under “Spot Account” → “Funding Records” → “Distribution”. The chart and table below record changes to this rate and sync with the exchange’s settings every day.

  • Futures 60%, Spot 35% (tracking started)

Rates sync with the exchange daily; every change is recorded automatically.

The rebate is calculated on the effective fees you actually pay (XT referral rebate explanation). Some trades earn nothing: fees offset with deduction credits, sub-accounts, certain coins excluded by announcement, and the zero-fee USDT/USDC pairs. Short-term traders should pay particular attention to XT’s risk control rules: rebates are canceled on any single trade opened and closed within 60 seconds, and if trades opened and closed within 3 minutes make up more than 60% of your volume, or trades within 5 minutes more than 75%, the platform can deduct the rebate (XT partner risk control rules).

The referral code can only be entered at sign-up; I found no official process for adding or changing one afterward. Also, if you first download the XT app through an ad or another referral channel and then register in that app, the referral may be bound to the original channel; the difference is explained in referral binding for app vs web sign-up. The code and sign-up steps are in XT referral code, and if you’ve already registered, see how to rebind an XT referral code.

Does XT have proof of reserves?

Yes. XT publishes four assets, BTC, ETH, USDC and USDT, on its XT proof of reserves page, with Merkle tree self-verification. XT only publishes the amounts of user assets and platform assets; I calculated the reserve ratios as “platform assets ÷ user assets”:

Item2026-10-07 report
BTC reserve ratio112.67%
ETH reserve ratio111.19%
USDT reserve ratio112.73%
User BTC assets375.1 BTC
Platform BTC assets422.63 BTC
Surplus BTCAbout 47.53 BTC
Update frequencyPeriodic; several reports in 2026, on no fixed dates
Third-party verificationThe page says it can be audited by an authorized third party, without naming the firm

Two things are worth noting. First, in XT’s data interface, the 2026-07-04 and 2026-08-05 reports list exactly the same amounts of BTC, ETH, USDC and USDT, and there is no report between 2026-04-30 and 07-04. Second, user BTC assets of 375.1 BTC are about 0.05% of Binance’s (688,572.68 BTC). A reserve ratio above 100% only means that, at the moment of the snapshot, the user assets the exchange included in the calculation were matched by at least as many coins; it doesn’t cover the company’s own liabilities. For all 13 exchanges, see exchange proof of reserves compared.

Has XT had any security or withdrawal incidents?

Compiled from official exchange announcements and major media reports (The Block, CoinDesk, Cointelegraph and others), as of 2026-10-12:

  • 2024-11-28: XT first suspended withdrawals for “wallet upgrade maintenance”, then admitted that assets had been moved out of a platform wallet abnormally. PeckShield estimated the funds were swapped into 461.58 ETH, about USD 1.7 million; XT’s account was about 1 million USDT across 12 coins, with users unaffected, and it said its reserves had always stayed at 1.5 times user assets (Cointelegraph). I couldn’t find the date withdrawals resumed.
  • 2025-05-29: Thailand’s SEC announced it would block 5 unlicensed platforms, including OKX, Bybit and XT, from 2025-06-28 (The Block).

XT’s 2024 loss is the smallest of the 8 exchange hacks recorded on this site; Bybit’s in 2025 was 401,346 ETH. As for a protection fund, I couldn’t find an official size published by XT. For the records of the other 12 exchanges, see exchange safety records.

Which countries can’t use XT?

Section 3.3.4 of the XT.COM user agreement (last edited in the help center on 2026-01-13) states that users located in the following regions are prohibited from using the service: the United States, Canada, mainland China, Cuba, North Korea, Singapore, Sudan, Venezuela and Crimea. The agreement notes that the list is not exhaustive and that XT can change it at any time without individual notice.

XT’s list ties with Binance’s as the shortest of the 13 exchanges, but a short list doesn’t mean you can use it in more places: Thailand isn’t on XT’s list, yet Thailand’s SEC still blocked XT in 2025. For a table of 13 exchanges across 16 regions, see exchange restricted countries.

What products does XT offer?

According to its official help pages, XT currently offers:

  • Spot: 0.2% at VIP 0, with zero fees on USDT/USDC pairs (from 2026-09-22).
  • Perpetual futures: USDT-margined and coin-margined, with funding fees settled every 8 hours, though XT adjusts the interval for individual contracts (XT funding fee calculation). By a 2026-10-12 count, 391 of XT’s 713 USDT perpetual contracts settle every 4 hours, more than the 321 that settle every 8 hours. For how it’s calculated, see what is the funding rate.
  • Flexible savings: USDT flexible savings is labeled 12% APR, but that applies only to the first 200 USDT; 200 to 500 USDT earns 7%, and anything above 500 USDT earns 2.3%. Calculated across the tiers for the whole balance, that’s about 5.65% on 1,000 USDT, about 2.63% on 10,000 USDT and about 2.37% on 50,000 USDT (XT Earn, 2026-10-12 snapshot; see USDT flexible savings rates compared).
  • C2C (P2P) and quick buy: C2C prices are set by users themselves, and you must complete identity verification before trading (XT C2C trading introduction); quick buy sends you to a partner payment platform to pay (XT quick buy explanation).

Copy trading and trading bots aren’t listed here, because the data this site cites doesn’t cover XT for them.

What should users in Taiwan watch out for with XT?

FSC registration: as of the list of “businesses and persons providing virtual asset services” updated by the SFB on 2026-09-29, XT is not on the FSC’s AML registration list. When the FSC commented on the FTX collapse, it pointed out that offshore trading platforms are not covered by the dispute-handling mechanisms of the Securities and Futures Investors Protection Center or the Financial Ombudsman Institution.

Moving New Taiwan dollars (TWD) in and out: XT’s official help pages don’t describe any way to deposit or withdraw TWD directly. A common approach in Taiwan is to buy USDT with TWD on MAX or BitoPro, transfer it on-chain to XT, and reverse the steps to cash out. Based on official fees as of 2026-10-12:

RouteSuggested networkFee
XT → MAXAptos0.01 USDT
XT → BitoProPolygon0.02 USDT
XT withdrawal via TRC20TRC201 USDT
XT withdrawal via ERC20ERC204 USDT
MAX → XTAvalanche C-ChainMAX withdrawal fee 0

XT’s withdrawal fees adjust dynamically with coin prices, so go by the amount shown on the withdrawal page. XT also warns against simply choosing the network with the lowest fee: if you pick the wrong network, the funds may not be recoverable (XT withdrawal guide). For full fees at every exchange, see USDT withdrawal fees compared; the two Taiwanese exchanges, MAX and BitoPro, have referral code guides on the Traditional Chinese version of this site.

Official channels: the official domain is xt.com; the developer on the Taiwan App Store is XT LTD, LLC (checked 2026-10-15), and on Google Play it is XT.COM Inc. (checked 2026-10-12). The XT official verification page lets you check official email addresses, as well as the Telegram, Discord and WhatsApp accounts of listing agents and business staff. Impersonation tactics are covered in crypto exchange scam types.

Who is XT a good fit for?

Judging by fees and products, XT fits these uses best:

  • Mainly futures traders with a few hundred thousand USDT of monthly volume: VIP 1 only takes 200,000 USDT of futures volume in 30 days and brings Taker to 0.054%, so you can lower your fees without large assets.
  • Small flexible savings balances: the first 200 USDT earns 12% APR, and 1,000 USDT as a whole earns about 5.65%, the highest in the 1,000 USDT example in USDT flexible savings rates compared (XT uses 2026-10-12 figures, the others 10-13). Once the amount grows past 10,000 USDT, the advantage disappears.

Where it fits less well: if you mainly trade spot, the 0.2% spot fee is 2 times what most exchanges charge (0.1%), and still 0.15% even with XT deduction. If you scalp and often open and close within 60 seconds, those trades earn no rebate. If the size and regularity of reserve reports matter to you, factor in the PoR issues described above as well. For the 13 exchanges ranked by fees, see lowest-fee crypto exchanges.

FAQ

Is XT safe?

No exchange can guarantee safety. XT’s record: on 2024-11-28, about USD 1.7 million was stolen from a platform wallet (PeckShield’s estimate), and XT said users were not affected; its 2026-10-07 proof of reserves shows a BTC reserve ratio of 112.67%. Thailand’s SEC blocked XT in 2025, and XT is not on the AML registration list of Taiwan’s FSC.

Is XT a scam?

XT itself is not a scam; it is an exchange in actual operation: the official site is xt.com, the app is available on Taiwan’s App Store with XT LTD, LLC as the developer, and it published proof of reserves on 2026-10-07. What people online call a “XT scam” is usually a fake website, fake app, fake customer support or fake investment group using XT’s name. The usual demands are to add someone on LINE, to transfer USDT to a “platform” outside the exchange, or to pay an “unfreezing fee” or “security deposit” before you can withdraw. Emails or business staff accounts claiming to be XT can be checked first on the XT official verification page. Not being a scam doesn’t mean there’s no risk: a platform wallet was hacked on 2024-11-28, Thailand’s SEC blocked XT in 2025, and XT is not on the FSC’s AML registration list either, so any dispute can only be handled under the platform’s terms. Impersonation tactics are covered in crypto exchange scam types, and rebate-related scams in rebate scam warning signs.

Has XT been hacked?

Once. On 2024-11-28, XT suspended withdrawals citing wallet maintenance, then admitted that assets had been moved out of a platform wallet abnormally. PeckShield estimated about USD 1.7 million; XT put it at about 1 million USDT. XT said users were not affected, but I couldn’t find the exact date withdrawals resumed.

Could XT go under? Are its reserves enough?

Nobody can predict that; what you can look at is the proof of reserves. XT’s BTC reserve ratio on 2026-10-07 was 112.67%, with the platform holding about 47.53 BTC more than users. But PoR only reflects the moment of the snapshot, doesn’t include company liabilities, and XT has had two reports with exactly the same figures. If it ever collapsed, you would have to go through proceedings where the platform is based; Taiwan’s Securities and Futures Investors Protection Center can’t help.

Can I use XT in Taiwan?

Taiwan isn’t on the restricted regions list in XT’s user agreement, but that doesn’t mean Taiwan’s regulators have approved it: XT is not on the FSC’s AML registration list (2026-09-29 version). Check the latest user agreement yourself before you sign up.

Can I withdraw from XT to a Taiwanese bank account?

XT’s official help pages don’t describe any way to withdraw TWD directly to a Taiwanese bank account. The common approach is to transfer USDT to MAX or BitoPro and convert it to TWD under that platform’s rules; sending from XT to MAX over Aptos costs 0.01 USDT (2026-10-12).

Why are XT’s spot fees higher?

XT spot at VIP 0 is 0.2% for both Maker and Taker, tied with HTX for the highest among the 13 exchanges; most exchanges charge 0.1%. Turning on XT platform token deduction takes 25% off, to 0.15%, and USDT/USDC pairs have zero fees.

How long does the XT rebate take to arrive?

It’s paid to your spot account the day after you trade (T+1); check under “Spot Account” → “Funding Records” → “Distribution”. Trades opened and closed within 60 seconds, fees offset with deduction credits and trades on sub-accounts earn no rebate. If yours hasn’t arrived, work through what to do if your referral rebate hasn’t arrived.

Can I add an XT referral code after signing up?

I found no official process for adding or changing one, so enter the referral code at sign-up. If you’ve already registered, see how to rebind an XT referral code and can you add a referral code after signing up for your options.

The XT referral code and sign-up steps are in XT referral code, and the full fee schedule is in XT fees explained. For when rebates can be canceled, see can rebates be canceled, and for each exchange’s actual fees after the rebate, see actual fees after referral rebates. Referral codes for other exchanges are collected in crypto exchange referral codes, and scams that impersonate exchanges are covered in exchange scam types.
