Is WEEX Safe? Is It a Scam? Proof of Reserves, Security Record and Official Website (2026)

Updated Rules checked 2026-10-13

Whether WEEX is safe can only be judged from its public record. By the source standard I use, as of 2026-10-12 there are no public reports of WEEX being hacked, halting withdrawals for a long period or receiving major regulatory penalties. However, its proof of reserves (PoR) page showed no figures at all when I checked, and the 1,000 BTC protection fund and “eight years without incident” on its website are WEEX’s own claims.

Auto fee rebate (fee discount)Futures 60%, Spot 35%

On fees, WEEX’s 0.08% futures Taker fee is the highest among the 13 exchanges this site covers, while its 0.02% Maker fee matches most exchanges, so taker orders cost 4 times as much as maker orders. If you use it from Taiwan, note that WEEX is not on the anti-money laundering (AML) registration list of Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), so if something goes wrong you can’t turn to Taiwan’s investor protection mechanisms.

This article doesn’t give star ratings. It collects fees, referral rebates, reserves, the safety record, restricted regions and products in one place, with a source for every number. For sign-up steps and the referral code, see WEEX referral code.

Key points: For regular WEEX users (VIP 0), spot Maker and Taker fees are both 0.1%, and USDT-margined futures are 0.02% Maker and 0.08% Taker; the futures Taker fee is the highest of the 13 exchanges. WEEX’s platform token WXT currently gives no fee discount; holding WXT only counts toward futures VIP thresholds. By this site’s source standard, as of 2026-10-12 there are no public reports of WEEX being hacked, halting withdrawals for a long period or receiving major regulatory penalties. When checked on 2026-10-12, WEEX’s proof of reserves page showed no figures, only an “Audited” label, and WEEX states neither the update frequency nor the third party’s name. As of the list updated by Taiwan’s Securities and Futures Bureau (SFB) on 2026-09-29, WEEX is not on the FSC’s AML registration list.

The data below was checked against official pages on 2026-10-13 (the data check date) and is provided for reference.

What are WEEX’s fees?

The table shows the official VIP 0 rates. WEEX charges the same spot fee for Maker and Taker, so maker orders only save money on futures:

MarketMakerTakerNotesSource
Spot0.1%0.1%Zero fees on the USDC/USDT pairWEEX VIP benefits upgrade announcement
USDT-margined futures0.02%0.08%Charged on position value, regardless of leverageWEEX VIP fee adjustment
Some USDT-margined futures pairs0.03% to 0.08%0.08%Maker raised on 167 pairs from 2025-05-30WEEX Maker fee adjustment announcement

Fees checked on 2026-10-11. Some older WEEX help pages still say the futures Taker fee is 0.06%; that was the 2024 rate, and WEEX moved it back to 0.08% on 2024-11-01. If you see different numbers, check the help page’s update date first.

In real amounts: with 300,000 USDT of futures volume a month, all taker orders cost 300,000 × 0.08% = 240 USDT, all maker orders cost 60 USDT, and a 50/50 split costs 150 USDT. Across all 13 exchanges, with 1 million USDT a month, all taker orders, WEEX charges 800 USDT, MEXC 200 USDT, and Binance and OKX 500 USDT. But with 80% maker and 20% taker orders, WEEX drops to 320 USDT, actually less than Binance with all taker orders (lowest-fee crypto exchanges).

You can also reach VIP through assets: a 5-day asset balance of 10,000 USDT gives futures VIP 1, with Taker at 0.075%; 30,000 USDT gives VIP 2, with Taker at 0.06%. Futures fees are charged on position value: opening a 10x position with 1,000 USDT of margin gives a 10,000 USDT position, and the Taker fee to open and close is 16 USDT, or 1.6% of your margin. With leverage, if the market moves against you, the position may be forcibly liquidated. The full fee schedule is in WEEX fees explained. To work out trading fees and funding fees together, use the perpetual futures cost calculator.

How much is the WEEX referral rebate, and has it changed?

Sign up to WEEX with a referral code and the exchange’s automatic fee rebate is currently Futures 60%, Spot 35%, refunded directly by WEEX. The chart and table below record changes to this rate and sync with the exchange’s settings every day.

  • Futures 60%, Spot 35% (tracking started)

Rates sync with the exchange daily; every change is recorded automatically.

WEEX sets its rebate rates separately for futures and spot. The rebate is calculated on the fees you actually pay, after deducting fee discounts, bonuses or subsidies (WEEX partner program terms). Fees paid with futures trial funds or deduction credits earn no rebate (WEEX commission FAQ), and neither do zero-fee pairs.

Short-term traders should watch WEEX’s abnormal trading rules: rapidly opening and closing within 5 minutes, self-trading, or using several devices or accounts to farm fees can lead to rebates being deducted, depending on severity. A yellow card is returned after 14 days of normal trading volume; red and black cards are not returned (WEEX abnormal trading rules).

WEEX states that the referral relationship can’t be changed once registration succeeds (WEEX sign-up guide), so enter the referral code when you register. The code and sign-up steps are in WEEX referral code, and if you’ve already registered, see how to rebind a WEEX referral code.

Does WEEX have proof of reserves?

There’s a page, but no figures I could find. WEEX has a proof of reserves page. When checked on 2026-10-12, the page required JavaScript and showed only empty fields and an “Audited” label, with no reserve ratio, snapshot date or asset amounts.

ItemWhat WEEX states officially
Latest snapshotNot shown on the page when checked

Merkle tree self-verificationNot stated officially
Third-party verificationThe page only shows an “Audited” label, with no firm named
Protection fund1,000 BTC, according to the official website

On the same day, 7 of the 13 exchanges had reserve ratios from September 2026 or later that could be read; XT’s BTC reserve ratio on 2026-10-07, for example, was 112.67%. A page with no figures, as with WEEX, can’t be used to check anything; a PoR that stops updating, or a page whose figures can’t be read, is itself a signal to watch. The 1,000 BTC protection fund is stated on the WEEX website; its size and how it’s used are decided by WEEX itself, and I found no third-party verification. For a comparison across exchanges, see exchange proof of reserves compared.

Has WEEX had any security or withdrawal incidents?

By the source standard I use (official exchange announcements first, then The Block, CoinDesk, Bloomberg, the US Department of Justice and regulators’ announcements), as of 2026-10-12 I found no public reports of WEEX in any of these three categories of major incident:

  • Platform wallet theft: none found.
  • Long withdrawal halts: none found.
  • Major regulatory penalties: none found.

“None found” means nothing turned up under the standard above; it doesn’t mean nothing has ever happened. For comparison, 7 of the 13 exchanges this site covers have had platform wallets drained, 8 incidents in total. The “eight years without incident” on the WEEX website is WEEX’s own claim. For the full records, see exchange safety records.

Which countries can’t use WEEX?

The “Excluded Jurisdictions” in section 1.1(d)(ii) of the WEEX terms of use (updated 2026-07-07) include Canada, South Korea, the United States (including its territories), mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Belarus, Russia and Russian-controlled regions of Ukraine, Somalia, Myanmar and Venezuela. Residents of these regions can’t open accounts or use WEEX’s services.

Among the 13 exchanges, WEEX is the only one besides Gate that lists South Korea as unserved. The terms also require users to notify the platform if they become residents of a restricted region. For a table of 13 exchanges across 16 regions, see exchange restricted countries.

What products does WEEX offer?

According to its official help pages, WEEX currently offers:

  • Spot: 0.1% at VIP 0; zero fees on USDC/USDT, and projects launched on WE-Launch get zero spot fees for a limited time.
  • USDT-margined perpetual futures: funding fees are paid between longs and shorts, and WEEX takes none. The FAQ says they’re charged every 8 hours, with times varying by pair (WEEX funding fee explanation). By a 2026-10-12 count, 487 of WEEX’s 1,035 USDT perpetual contracts settle every 4 hours; see what is the funding rate. USDC-margined futures were delisted on 2026-01-23.
  • One-click copy trading: when followers make a profit, the trader takes 10% of the net profit (profit minus fees), settled daily, with no profit share on losses; copy trades are charged the normal futures fees to open and close (WEEX one-click copy trading: trader profit share).
  • Auto Earn: no transfer needed; idle balances in spot, futures and funding accounts all earn interest, paid the next day. The first 200 USDT earns 10% APR, and 200 to 500,000 USDT earns 3.5%. Calculated across the tiers for the whole balance, that’s about 4.80% on 1,000 USDT, about 3.63% on 10,000 USDT and about 3.53% on 50,000 USDT (WEEX Auto Earn, 2026-10-13 snapshot; see USDT flexible savings rates compared).
  • P2P and quick buy: WEEX charges no P2P trading fee; you must complete identity verification and can only trade in fiat currencies supported for your verified country (WEEX P2P FAQ). Quick buy is provided by third-party payment providers, which set the price (WEEX quick buy guide).

What should users in Taiwan watch out for with WEEX?

FSC registration: as of the list of “businesses and persons providing virtual asset services” updated by the SFB on 2026-09-29, WEEX is not on the FSC’s AML registration list. When the FSC commented on the FTX collapse, it pointed out that offshore trading platforms are not covered by the dispute-handling mechanisms of the Securities and Futures Investors Protection Center or the Financial Ombudsman Institution.

Moving New Taiwan dollars (TWD) in and out: WEEX’s P2P only supports fiat currencies for your verified country, so whether TWD is available depends on the P2P page. The other route is to buy USDT with TWD on MAX or BitoPro, transfer it on-chain to WEEX, and reverse the steps to cash out. Based on official fees as of 2026-10-12:

RouteSuggested networkFee
WEEX → MAXBEP200.05 USDT
WEEX → BitoProBEP200.05 USDT
WEEX withdrawal via TRC20TRC201.5 USDT
WEEX withdrawal via ERC20ERC200.5 USDT (minimum withdrawal 20 USDT)
MAX → WEEXAvalanche C-ChainMAX withdrawal fee 0

WEEX’s withdrawal FAQ says the withdrawal fee is “collected by miners, not by the platform” (WEEX withdrawal FAQ), yet the amount charged on the same network varies widely between exchanges. Internal transfers to another WEEX user are free. Withdrawals on the TON network require a Memo/Tag. For full fees at every exchange, see USDT withdrawal fees compared; the two Taiwanese exchanges, MAX and BitoPro, have referral code guides on the Traditional Chinese version of this site.

Official channels: the official domain is weex.com; the developer on the Taiwan App Store is Weex Virtual Currency Exchange LLC (checked 2026-10-15), and on Google Play it is WEEX PRO (checked 2026-10-12). Suspicious URLs, emails, phone numbers, Telegram or social media accounts can be checked with the WEEX Contact Verifier. Impersonation tactics are covered in crypto exchange scam types.

Who is WEEX a good fit for?

Judging by fees and products, WEEX fits these uses best:

  • Futures traders who mostly use maker orders: the 0.02% Maker fee matches most exchanges, and at 80% maker orders the blended rate is 0.032%. Check the trading page before placing maker orders, since 167 pairs have had their Maker fee raised.
  • People who keep funds on the exchange and don’t want to subscribe to savings products manually: Auto Earn calculates interest on idle balances automatically, 3.5% across 200 to 500,000 USDT, and 50,000 USDT as a whole earns about 3.53%, second in the 2026-10-13 snapshot. An asset balance of 10,000 USDT also takes you straight to futures VIP 1.

Where it fits less well: if you usually enter and exit with market orders, the 0.08% Taker fee is the highest of the 13 exchanges. Very short-term trades opened and closed within 5 minutes may have their rebates deducted. If you want to check reserve figures before deciding, WEEX currently has no figures to read. Residents of South Korea, Canada, Hong Kong and other places can’t use it under its terms.

FAQ

Is WEEX safe?

No exchange can guarantee safety. By this site’s source standard, as of 2026-10-12 there are no public reports of WEEX being hacked, halting withdrawals for a long period or receiving major regulatory penalties. But its proof of reserves page showed no figures when checked, and the 1,000 BTC protection fund and “eight years without incident” are WEEX’s own claims. WEEX is also not on the AML registration list of Taiwan’s FSC.

Is WEEX a scam?

WEEX itself is not a scam; it is an exchange in actual operation: the official site is weex.com, the app is available on Taiwan’s App Store with Weex Virtual Currency Exchange LLC as the developer, and by this site’s source standard, as of 2026-10-12 there are no public reports of it being hacked or halting withdrawals for a long period. What people online call a “WEEX scam” is usually a fake website, fake app, fake customer support or fake investment group using WEEX’s name. The usual demands are to add someone on LINE, to transfer USDT to a “platform” outside the exchange, or to pay an “unfreezing fee” or “security deposit” before you can withdraw. Suspicious URLs, emails, phone numbers or Telegram accounts can be checked with the WEEX Contact Verifier. Not being a scam doesn’t mean there’s no risk: WEEX’s proof of reserves page showed no figures when checked, and WEEX is not on the FSC’s AML registration list either, so any dispute can only be handled under the platform’s terms. Impersonation tactics are covered in crypto exchange scam types, and rebate-related scams in rebate scam warning signs.

Has WEEX been hacked?

By the source standard this site uses, as of 2026-10-12 there are no public reports of a WEEX platform wallet being drained. That doesn’t mean it has never happened; it only means nothing turned up in exchange announcements, major media or regulators’ announcements.

Could WEEX go under? Does the protection fund help?

Nobody can predict that, and WEEX currently has no reserve figures you can check. Its website says it has a 1,000 BTC protection fund; the size of that fund and how it’s used are decided by WEEX, and it isn’t insurance. If it ever collapsed, you would have to go through proceedings where the platform is based; Taiwan’s Securities and Futures Investors Protection Center can’t help.

Can I use WEEX in Taiwan?

Taiwan isn’t among the Excluded Jurisdictions in WEEX’s terms of use, but that doesn’t mean Taiwan’s regulators have approved it: WEEX is not on the FSC’s AML registration list (2026-09-29 version). The list in the terms can change, so check the latest version yourself before you sign up.

Can I withdraw from WEEX to a Taiwanese bank account?

The official help pages don’t describe withdrawing TWD directly to a Taiwanese bank account. Whether P2P supports TWD depends on the P2P page. Another approach is to transfer USDT to MAX or BitoPro and convert it to TWD under that platform’s rules; withdrawing from WEEX over BEP20 costs 0.05 USDT (2026-10-12).

Can holding WXT reduce my fees?

Not at the moment. The 50% futures fee discount for holding 100,000 WXT ended when VIP exclusive rates launched on 2024-12-30. WXT now only counts toward futures VIP thresholds; for example, holding 5,000 WXT for 24 hours gives VIP 1, with a futures Taker fee of 0.075%.

Can I change my WEEX referral code after signing up?

No. WEEX states that the referral relationship can’t be changed once registration succeeds, so enter the code when you sign up. If you’ve already registered, see how to rebind a WEEX referral code and can you add a referral code after signing up for your options.

The WEEX referral code and sign-up steps are in WEEX referral code, and the full fee schedule is in WEEX fees explained. For when rebates can be canceled, see can rebates be canceled, and for each exchange’s actual fees after the rebate, see actual fees after referral rebates. The difference between maker and taker orders is explained in Maker vs Taker fees, and referral codes for other exchanges are collected in crypto exchange referral codes.
