Can you add a referral code after signing up? Rules by exchange (2026)

Updated

As of 2026-10-14, 6 of the 13 exchanges covered on this site officially let you add a referral code after signing up: Binance (within 30 days of sign-up, before any deposit or trade), Bybit (within 14 days of sign-up, affiliate codes only), MEXC (within 30 days of sign-up), Pionex (within 14 days of sign-up, or 3 days if you’ve placed a trade order), BingX (before your first deposit) and Ourbit (accounts with no referrer yet).

Of the other 7, OKX, Bitget, Gate, HTX, XT.COM and WEEX only describe entering a referral code at sign-up in their official documentation, and no add-later process can be found; KuCoin, by contrast, lets you submit a “Link Referrer” request in the Self-Service section of its Help Center, which KuCoin reviews, and it doesn’t state a deadline, conditions or review time (checked 2026-10-22). OKX has one alternative route: you can’t add a code after registering, but you can submit a switch request, which the system reviews. Binance has two more routes beyond its add-later window: accounts that are past 30 days or have already traded, and have no referrer, can use an affiliate-initiated switch request; old accounts registered more than 90 days ago with no trades in the last 90 days can also be bound directly through an affiliate’s recall link.

6 of 13exchanges officially allow adding a code after sign-up
30 daysMEXC add-later window
14 daysPionex window; only 3 days once you’ve placed a trade order

The referral code’s fee discount is an official offer from each exchange, and each exchange sets its own rules on whether a code can be added later. Below are the rules I compiled from each exchange’s official pages, for reference.

Key points
Of the 13 exchanges, 6 officially allow adding a referral code after sign-up: Binance, Bybit, MEXC, Pionex, BingX and Ourbit.
Pionex has the shortest window: 14 days from sign-up, cut to 3 days if you’ve placed a trade order since registering. Bybit also allows 14 days, and accepts only affiliate codes.
Binance and MEXC allow 30 days from sign-up; Binance also requires that the account has no deposit or trading history and that your identity details haven’t been used on another account in the past 180 days.
OKX states that a referral code only takes effect at sign-up and can’t be added afterward. To bind to an affiliate you have to submit a switch request, which is usually reviewed within 24 hours, and two requests must be 30 days apart.
You get only one chance to add a code: all 6 state that a referral relationship can’t be changed or removed once bound.

The information below was verified against official pages on 2026-10-14 (data check date), for reference.

Source links are in each exchange’s section below. “No add-later process found” means the exchange’s help center has no way to add a referral code after sign-up; go by what your account shows and what support tells you. Whether each exchange lets you change referrers, and at what cost, is covered in the guide to switching your referral code. Below is a summary of each exchange’s official add-later rules:

Compiled from each exchange's official pages on 2026-10-22; the exchange's current pages prevail. Each exchange's official sources are listed in its guide on this site.

This summary doesn’t list Bybit; Bybit’s 14-day rule is in the section below. HTX states no add-later rule officially, so it shows as no data.

How is the add-later window counted? Example: signing up today

For an account registered on 2026-10-14, here are each exchange’s windows as dates:

ExchangeOfficial windowRegistered 10-14: add by aboutWhat ends the window early
PionexWithin 14 days of sign-up; 3 days if you’ve placed a trade order10-28; 10-17 if you’ve placed an orderPlacing your first trade order (manual or bot)
BybitWithin 14 days of sign-up10-28—
BinanceWithin 30 days of sign-up11-13Your first deposit or first trade
MEXCWithin 30 days of sign-up11-13—
BingXNo day limitBefore your first depositYour first deposit, buying crypto, or inviting your first friend
OurbitNo deadline stated officiallyAs long as the “Bind Referrer” button is still thereNot stated officially

I worked out the dates by adding the days to the sign-up date. The exchanges don’t say whether the sign-up day itself counts, so it’s best to act a day or two early. The easiest things to miss are the two conditions that end the window early: at Pionex, placing a trade order after signing up cuts the window from 14 days to 3; at Binance and BingX, a single deposit means you can no longer add a code. The order least likely to go wrong is to add the code first, then deposit, then trade.

Why is it worth adding a code within the window? Rebates are refunded on each trade’s fee, so the sooner the code is bound, the more trades count. Take Binance USDⓈ-M futures at Taker 0.05%: trading 100,000 USDT a month costs 100,000 × 0.05% = 50 USDT in fees, and the rebate is calculated as those 50 USDT times the rebate rate. No exchange states that fees paid before you added the code will be rebated retroactively.

If you add this site’s Binance referral code, the current exchange automatic rebate (fee discount) is 20%. The table below estimates the monthly rebate at the same Taker 0.05%:

Monthly volumeFees (0.05%)Auto rebate (20%)Net fees
10,000 USDT5 USDT1 USDT4 USDT
100,000 USDT50 USDT10 USDT40 USDT
1,000,000 USDT500 USDT100 USDT400 USDT

Example at a futures fee rate of 0.05% and the current 20% automatic rebate (rate updated 2026-10-24). Your exchange statement prevails.

Binance’s standard futures rates are Maker 0.02% and Taker 0.05% (Binance futures fee guide). Futures use leverage, and a price move against you can get your position liquidated. The estimate only looks at fees and isn’t a recommendation to trade these amounts.

How do you add a code at the exchanges that allow it?

Binance: within 30 days of sign-up, before any deposit or trade

Binance’s Referral Pro FAQ says that if you forgot to enter a referral code at sign-up, you can add it on the Binance referral binding page. Every condition must be met: registered less than 30 days ago, no deposit or trading history on the account, no current referral relationship, a parent account rather than a sub-account, and identity verification details not used on another account in the past 180 days. Once a referral relationship is established, it can’t be changed or removed (Binance Referral Pro FAQ, updated 2026-08-05).

A single deposit or trade closes this route. If you’ve just signed up and haven’t deposited yet, add the code before you deposit. If you don’t meet the conditions, see “Past the window or already traded” below and the Binance referral code switching guide.

Bybit: within 14 days of sign-up, affiliate codes only

Bybit’s official guide says you can manually add an affiliate code within 14 days of registering, and requests after 14 days aren’t accepted. You need a main account with no existing affiliate or referrer; market maker and institutional accounts aren’t eligible. Referral codes from other Bybit users (Referral Program) can’t be added. Once added, the code can’t be cancelled or changed, and Bybit also notes that, because of regulatory requirements, some accounts may be unable to join the affiliate community they entered (Bybit guide to adding and checking an affiliate code, updated 2026-06-05).

Go to “Profile → Account → Account Info”, tap “Join an Affiliate’s Community”, enter the affiliate code and a reason, and submit. If you can’t see this option, your account doesn’t qualify. This site has no applicable exchange automatic rebate for Bybit; for the rebate channel and the ID to enter when adding a code, see the Bybit referral code switching guide.

MEXC: within 30 days of sign-up

MEXC says accounts registered within the past 30 days can link a referral code, either through customer support or by themselves: find “Self-Service Referrer Linking” in the help center, and the result appears under “My Invites → My Referrer”. Main accounts only, the referrer must have registered before you, and an account with the same identity details as the referrer can’t be linked. (MEXC self-service linking guide, MEXC affiliate FAQ, checked 2026-10-14)

On the self-service page you enter either the referrer’s invite code or their UID, then tap “Confirm binding” and you’re done. The page also reminds you that this binds your own referrer, not a friend you invited, and it can’t be undone once submitted.

Pionex: within 14 days of sign-up

Pionex’s help center says you can add a code within 14 days of registering; if you’ve already placed a trade order since registering, only within 3 days of sign-up. Where to add it:

  • App: after logging in, tap “Pionex” → avatar → “Referral Code”, enter the code and confirm.
  • Web: after logging in, click the avatar → “Dashboard” → “Set”, enter the code and submit.

(Pionex: refill referral code, checked 2026-10-14)

The same guide states that once bound, the referral code stays permanently attached to the account and can’t be changed, removed or transferred under any circumstances; if you enter the wrong code, Pionex can’t correct it for you. Pionex’s benefit is a fee discount: fees are charged at the normal rate when you trade, then refunded in USDT to your main account and recorded under USDT History in the main account. Separately, Pionex’s rebate rules state that invited users must make a first deposit and trade within 30 calendar days of signing up; otherwise, later trades don’t count toward the inviter’s rebate scope (Pionex rebate rules). After adding the code, remember to deposit and trade within 30 days.

BingX: before your first deposit

BingX’s referral agreement says that once you’ve deposited after registering (including through Buy Crypto), you can no longer bind a referral code; its registration FAQ adds that you also can’t bind one after inviting friends. If you still qualify, add it here:

  • App: avatar → arrow → Profile Settings → “My Referrer”
  • Web: avatar → “Account & Security” → “My Referrer”

(BingX referral agreement, BingX registration FAQ, checked 2026-10-14)

The “deposit” in the registration FAQ also includes crypto transferred in from other platforms. Once an account is bound to a referral code, the code can’t be changed or removed. For accounts that have already deposited, BingX offers an official “Identity Transfer” feature that moves advanced KYC to another account that isn’t verified yet; the conditions and limits are covered in the guide to switching your referral code.

Ourbit: accounts without a referrer

Ourbit’s invite page has a “Bind Referrer” dialog. Accounts that haven’t bound a referrer can add one, and no deadline is given. An account that’s already bound can’t be changed. (Ourbit invite page rules, checked 2026-10-08)

Ourbit also doesn’t say whether accounts that have deposited or traded can still add one. If you still see “Bind Referrer” on the referral page after logging in, you can add one for now. Ourbit spot has charged 0 fees since 2024-09-03, and rebates come only from futures and DEX trading (Ourbit zero-fee spot announcement), so if you only trade spot, adding a referral code makes no difference to your fees.

Past the window or already traded: what else can you do?

Adding a code only applies when the account has no referrer yet. For accounts past the window, only two exchanges officially offer an alternative:

  • Binance affiliate switch: for accounts that have trading history but no referrer. Only the affiliate can initiate it from their dashboard and send you the switch link, which you confirm and submit yourself. Conditions include completed identity verification, a parent account, total trading volume under 5,000 USD (or equivalent) over the past 90 days, and not living in a restricted region. After you submit, your total trading volume must reach 150,000 USD (or equivalent) within 30 days, and the referral relationship is established only on the day you hit that target. Volume from sub-accounts and zero-fee trading pairs doesn’t count (Binance affiliate switch FAQ, published 2026-09-28).
  • Binance Affiliate Recall Program: for old accounts registered more than 90 days ago that have never accepted an inviter and haven’t traded or used any products on Binance in the past 90 days. The affiliate gets the new invitation link or QR code from the Referral Pro page and sends it to you; open it and log in, a confirmation window pops up, and the binding takes effect once you click “Bind Now.” Binance doesn’t set a trading volume target. The feature is still in testing and may not be available in some regions (Binance Affiliate Recall Program FAQ, updated 2026-03-24, checked 2026-10-15).
  • OKX switch request: OKX states that a referral code only takes effect at sign-up and can’t be added once the account exists, so binding to an affiliate means going through the switching process. It requires the affiliate to have turned on the Win Back Invitation feature in their dashboard; you can open the win-back link they give you and submit it, or enter their numeric channel ID on the switch page. Review usually happens within 24 hours, the request can’t be cancelled once submitted, support can’t assign attribution manually, and two requests must be 30 days apart (OKX affiliate FAQ (EEA), updated 2026-10-01).

Binance’s two thresholds have to be read together: under 5,000 USD in the 90 days before you submit, and 150,000 USD in the 30 days after. At USDⓈ-M futures Taker 0.05%, trading 150,000 USD first costs 150,000 × 0.05% = 75 USD in fees, and the rebate returns only part of that, so for accounts that usually trade small amounts it isn’t necessarily worth it. OKX also has an inactivity rule: “lapsed users” with no deposit, trade, withdrawal or transfer in the past 180 days who log in through a new affiliate’s link (opening the OKX app directly doesn’t count) are moved to the new referral relationship by the system (OKX affiliate rules). Full steps are in the OKX referral code switching guide; Bybit’s inactivity reassignment rules are in the Bybit switching guide.

Which exchanges have no add-later process?

The official documentation of these 8 (7 of the 13 on this site, plus Bitfinex) only describes entering a referral code at sign-up, and no add-later process can be found (KuCoin is the exception: you can submit a request):

  • OKX: the referral relationship usually can’t be added or changed after registration, and OKX warns against deleting your account or opening another one to switch codes (OKX referral program FAQ).
  • XT.COM: the code is entered at sign-up, and XT.COM says changes to rebate rules apply only to users who haven’t registered yet.
  • WEEX: the referral relationship can’t be changed after registration.
  • Bitget: inviting users who are already registered isn’t recognized.
  • Gate: each user can sign up through only one referral method.
  • KuCoin, HTX: the guides only mention entering a code during sign-up. KuCoin also lets you submit a “Link Referrer” or “Unlink Referrer” request in the Self-Service section of its Help Center; KuCoin reviews it and doesn’t state a deadline, conditions or review time (checked 2026-10-22).
  • Bitfinex: the affiliate terms say existing Bitfinex users can’t be referred.

If you didn’t enter a code at sign-up on these exchanges, the original account has no referrer. Opening another account is usually restricted by “one account per person” or “one set of identity details can verify only one account” rules; each exchange’s conditions and risks are in the switching guides. KuCoin, for example, lets each person verify only one account.

Can you switch a referral code that’s already bound?

Some exchanges allow adding or switching a referral code after sign-up. For the actual process, see the summary on Fee Otter, a fee rebate site.

Some exchanges have their own rules on re-registering. Pionex says that once the add-later window has passed, the only option is to close the account and register again after 30 days, and closing an account can’t be undone. OKX warns that deleting your account and re-registering to switch referral codes may be treated as a violation. Check each exchange’s rules before you decide.

Binance puts it more bluntly: if its system detects that an account was closed and a new one opened for referral benefits, Binance has the right to end all referral commission on the new account. OKX’s referral program FAQ also states that deleting your account and registering again won’t restore the original referral relationship. Whether you’re adding or switching a code, never hand over your password, verification code or API key; a rebate site needs only your UID to check the binding. Common tactics are covered in how to spot rebate scams.

After adding a code, how do you confirm it’s bound?

A successful add may not come with an obvious notification, so check once yourself after submitting:

  • MEXC: “Invite Friends → My Inviter” shows the referrer’s details.
  • Bybit: after a successful add you return to the Account Info page, and the affiliate code field shows the bound code. Some affiliates don’t show their ID because of privacy settings, and Bybit says this doesn’t affect attribution.
  • Pionex: the referral code field under “Referral Code” in the app or on the web Dashboard shows the code you entered.
  • Ourbit: “My Referrer” on the referral page shows the invite code, and the “Bind Referrer” button no longer appears.
  • Binance, BingX: neither officially describes a page where invitees can view their referrer. At Binance, you can check whether USDC rebates reach your spot account within 6 hours of a trade.

The full lookup paths for each exchange are in the referral code lookup guide; if you’ve added a code but see no rebate, work through the checklist for a missing rebate item by item.

Haven’t signed up yet? How to bind the code in one go

Entering the code at sign-up is the safest route: open the sign-up page from the referral link, check the referral code field before you submit, and finish registration on that same page. OKX and XT.COM both warn that downloading the app before signing up can stop the referral from binding. Each exchange’s referral code and automatic rebate rate are compared on the exchange referral code overview.

For phone users, OKX suggests first binding your email on the invite page, then downloading and opening the app from the link and registering with the same email; if the referral code isn’t filled in automatically, you can enter it manually. Downloading the app and logging in after you’ve registered is more reliable than registering in the app. For app sign-up tips by exchange, see will your referral code bind if you sign up in the app.

FAQ

Do trades made before adding the code get a rebate?

No exchange officially states whether trades made before the code was added are rebated. Go by the rebate records in your account.

What’s the difference between adding a code and switching?

Adding a code gives an account with no referrer a referral code; switching means changing an already bound referrer to someone else. Some exchanges allow switching, and the process differs by exchange.

Can you add a referral code on Binance after signing up?

Yes, if you’re within 30 days of sign-up, have no deposits or trades, and have no current referrer. Just enter the code on Binance’s referral binding page. For accounts that have already traded but have no referrer, the affiliate has to initiate a switch request, and trading volume in the 90 days before submitting must be under 5,000 USD. Old accounts registered more than 90 days ago with no trades in the last 90 days can bind through an affiliate’s recall link instead.

What if you forgot to enter a referral code when signing up for OKX?

You can’t add one later; your only option is a switch request. OKX states that a referral code only takes effect at sign-up. Switching requires the affiliate to turn on the Win Back Invitation feature, the system usually reviews the request within 24 hours, and two requests must be 30 days apart.

Can you add a referral code on Bybit after signing up?

Within 14 days of sign-up, yes, but only an affiliate’s code; regular users’ referral codes can’t be added. The account must be a main account with no current referrer, and the code can’t be cancelled or changed once added.

If I’ve only placed manual orders on Pionex, does that count as having placed a trade order?

Yes. Pionex’s English refill guide says “placed trade orders”, and the Chinese version states that both manual and bot trades count, so an account that has placed orders can only add a code within 3 days of sign-up.

Do you need to give a password or API key to add a referral code?

No. You add the code yourself by logging in to the exchange and entering it on the official page; a rebate site needs only your UID to check the binding. If anyone asks for your password, verification code or API key, don’t provide it.

If you’re still within the window, add the code first, then deposit and trade. If the window has passed, the switching options are in the guide to switching your referral code and the Binance referral code switching guide. If you haven’t signed up yet, each exchange’s referral code is on the exchange referral code overview.
