Best Crypto Exchange for Beginners, Futures, Fees, Copy Trading (2026)

Updated Rules checked 2026-10-21

Which crypto exchange is best in 2026 depends on what you use it for: no single exchange ranks near the top for every use. Looking only at the official rates for regular users (VIP 0), MEXC has the lowest USDT-margined perpetual futures Taker fee at 0.02%, and Ourbit has the lowest spot fee at 0%. Reading the official APIs on 2026-10-21, Gate has the most tradable spot coins, with 2,032.

For a new user in Taiwan, the first step usually is not an overseas exchange. To buy crypto with New Taiwan dollars (TWD), you first buy USDT on MAX or BitoPro and then transfer it to an overseas exchange. On the overseas side, the official identity verification review times are about 30 seconds after upload at OKX and 2-10 minutes at BingX. If you forgot to enter a referral code, Ourbit lets you add one as long as the account has no referrer yet, while MEXC and Binance allow it within 30 days of sign-up.

This article ranks exchanges differently from the site’s exchange referral code roundup. The roundup follows the exchange ranking methodology and sorts only by the exchange’s automatic fee rebate rate, from highest to lowest, so it answers “which one refunds the most”. This article answers “which one fits what I want to do”: each use is sorted by a different metric, and the metric is written in the summary table and at the start of each section. That is why the same exchange can sit in different places on the two pages.

Key points: for the VIP 0 USDT-margined perpetual futures Taker fee, MEXC is lowest at 0.02%, Ourbit is next at 0.04%, and Binance, OKX, Gate, BingX and Pionex are all at 0.05%; trading 1,000,000 USDT of futures a month, all as Taker orders, you pay 200, 400 and 500 USDT respectively. All 875 of Ourbit’s spot trading pairs have zero fees (official API, 2026-10-21), MEXC’s major coins and Pionex charge 0.05%, and most exchanges charge 0.1%. By tradable spot coins in the official APIs on 2026-10-21, Gate has 2,032, MEXC 1,408, XT 948 and Binance 512. Of the 13 exchanges, 7 have had platform wallets hacked, 8 times in total; the ones with no hack record that also have a proof-of-reserves snapshot from September 2026 or later are OKX, MEXC and Gate.

The information below was checked against official pages on 2026-10-21 (data check date) and is provided for reference. Some fee rates, earn rates and security records come from earlier checks in the site’s other guides, and the date is written under each table.

Best crypto exchange for beginners buying for the first time

If you deposit New Taiwan dollars, your first stop is MAX or BitoPro: buy USDT there, then transfer it to an overseas exchange. For overseas exchanges, this section looks only at the three things beginners most often get stuck on: how long identity verification takes, whether there is a Traditional Chinese interface, and whether a forgotten referral code can still be added. BingX, MEXC and OKX make these easier.

ExchangeOfficial KYC review timeTraditional ChineseForgot the referral code at sign-upOfficial source
BingX2-10 minutesWebsite and help centerCan be added before your first deposit, if you have not invited anyone yetKYC FAQ, registration FAQ
MEXCUsually within 15 minutes; some applications take 8 to 24 hoursWebsiteCan be added within 30 days of sign-upKYC FAQ, affiliate FAQ
OKXAbout 30 seconds after upload; within 24 hours if further review is neededWebsite and help centerCannot be added; you can only submit a rebind requestHow long verification takes, referral program FAQ

Sources and check dates: the BingX and OKX review times were rechecked on the official pages on 2026-10-21; the MEXC review time and the Traditional Chinese interfaces of all three come from the site’s KYC and exchange review guides, checked on 2026-10-13; the rules for adding a code later were checked on 2026-10-14.

The order puts “can you fix a mistake” first. OKX has the fastest review, but its referral code only works at sign-up; BingX and MEXC review quickly and still give you a window to add a forgotten code. Binance is another common choice: it officially says KYC is “usually within 48 hours”, slower than the three above, but within 30 days of sign-up, before any deposit or trade, you can still add a referral code, and it has 512 spot coins. Bybit’s KYC usually takes about 15 minutes, but signing up with a referral code gets no exchange rebate for the invited user. For the documents each exchange needs and what to do when you get stuck, see the Binance KYC, OKX KYC and Bybit KYC guides, among others. Also, if you download the app first and then sign up, the referral may not be bound; for the right order, see app sign-up and referral code binding.

Taiwan users who pay in New Taiwan dollars (TWD) can buy USDT on a local Taiwanese exchange first and then withdraw it to an overseas exchange. Before withdrawing, make sure the deposit address on the overseas exchange is on the same network you choose.

Which crypto exchange has the lowest futures fees?

Looking only at official VIP 0 rates, the lowest USDT-margined perpetual futures Taker fee is MEXC at 0.02%, followed by Ourbit at 0.04%, with Binance, OKX, Gate, BingX and Pionex all at 0.05%. After you sign up with a referral code, the rate you actually pay is “official Taker × (1 − the exchange’s automatic fee rebate rate)”. The rate syncs with the exchange every day, so the order after the rebate changes too.

Sources and check dates: official rates were checked on each exchange’s fee page on 2026-10-12, and MEXC was rechecked on 2026-10-21 against its official contract specification data; rebate rates are shown by the system and sync with the exchanges every day. Fee = 1,000,000 × Taker rate, with opening and closing each counted as one trade.

An exchange with low official fees does not necessarily have a high rebate rate, so look at the two together. KuCoin and XT, for example, both charge a 0.06% official futures Taker fee, higher than the table above, but their automatic rebate rates are also high, so after the rebate they may move up. The full ranking after rebates is updated daily in lowest-fee crypto exchanges and the exchange referral code roundup; the calculation is explained in actual fees after referral code rebates.

Three things about the table need extra attention. First, MEXC sets fees separately for each contract: reading the MEXC contract specification data on 2026-10-21, 899 of 1,085 USDT contracts were 0% / 0.02%, 100 had zero fees, 64 were 0.01% / 0.04% and 18 were 0.04% / 0.1%, so check the trading page before trading futures on small coins. Second, Ourbit’s fee notice for Taiwan VIP users lists the futures Taker fee for Taiwan VIP 0 as 0.05%; the rate shown after you log in is what counts. Third, a Maker fill at 0% has no fee and therefore no rebate, so MEXC’s rebate in practice only comes from Taker orders.

Bybit is not in the table. Its VIP 0 perpetual futures fees are Maker 0.02% and Taker 0.055% (Bybit trading fee structure), and signing up with a referral code gets no exchange rebate for the invited user. To get part of your Bybit fees back, you can use the rebate site Fee Otter. This extra rebate is paid by Fee Otter, not by the exchange and not by Kevin Wu, and the rate is whatever Fee Otter’s page shows; for the steps, see Bybit fee rebate (Fee Otter). WEEX’s 0.08% futures Taker fee is the highest of the 13, and Bitget, KuCoin, HTX and XT charge 0.06%. Futures use leverage, and if the price moves against you the position may be liquidated, so fees are only part of the cost. To add funding rates and the number of trades into the calculation, use the perpetual futures cost calculator; the formula is in how futures fees are calculated.

Which crypto exchange has the lowest spot fees?

Ourbit charges zero fees on all spot trading pairs, followed by MEXC (Maker 0% and Taker 0.05% on major coins) and Pionex (0.05% / 0.05%). At most exchanges VIP 0 spot is 0.1%, and XT and HTX charge 0.2%.

Sources and check dates: Ourbit and MEXC trading pair fees were read from the official APIs on 2026-10-21; Pionex fees were checked on 2026-10-12. MEXC’s 0.05% applies only to major coins such as BTC and ETH; the figures above show that most small-coin pairs are at 0.08%.

Holding the platform token changes the order. Paying with MX at MEXC gives 20% off, bringing the major-coin Taker fee to 0.04%; paying with BNB at Binance gives 25% off, bringing spot to 0.075% (checked 2026-10-12; see lowest-fee crypto exchanges). If you only trade stablecoins, XT’s USDT/USDC pair and WEEX’s USDC/USDT pair both have zero fees. On the other hand, KuCoin splits spot coins into classes A, B and C, with VIP 0 rates of 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3%, so someone who often buys small coins may actually pay 2 to 3 times the headline rate (KuCoin VIP fee structure). The difference between spot and futures is covered in spot vs futures.

Which crypto exchange has the most coins?

Reading each exchange’s official public API on 2026-10-21, Gate has the most tradable spot coins with 2,032, followed by MEXC with 1,408 and XT with 948; Binance has 512 and Bybit 390. If you want small-cap or newly listed coins, the top three give you more choice.

Sources and check dates: the official public APIs above, read on 2026-10-21. Only trading pairs with a tradable status were counted, and base coins were then deduplicated; a coin with several pairs, such as USDT and USDC, is counted once, which is why Binance and OKX have far more trading pairs than coins.

Two exchanges are missing from the table. Bitget’s public trading pair data lists 3,588 live pairs, 3,026 of which carry a separate zone tag, so its counting scope differs from the other exchanges; putting it in directly would distort the comparison, so it is left out. WEEX’s public spot endpoint replied on the check date that the service was disabled, so no figure was obtained. More coins also come at a cost: small coins usually have weaker liquidity and may have higher fees. Most small-coin pairs at MEXC have a 0.08% Taker fee, and KuCoin’s class B and C coins are 0.2% and 0.3%, so check the fee for that trading pair before you place an order.

Which crypto exchange is best for copy trading?

The more often a lead trader gets in and out and the higher the leverage, the more likely the fees a copier pays end up larger than the profit share, because profit share is only charged on gains while fees are charged on every trade. By the Taker fee copiers pay, MEXC is lowest at 0.02%. Of the 6 exchanges the site checked, only Binance states that copy trading fees count toward referral commission; OKX states that copy trading fees are the same as regular futures fees, with no other charges.

BingX0.05%200 USDT10% to 32%, depending on the lead trader’s tierYes, net PnL is after feesNot stated officially

Sources and check dates: checked on 2026-10-12 against the MEXC profit share rules, Binance futures copy trading FAQ, OKX lead trader profit sharing rules and BingX copy trading parameters. Fees = 5,000 USDT position × Taker × 2 (open and close) × 40 times.

In the same example, Bybit (Taker 0.055%) comes to 220 USDT and Bitget (0.06%) to 240 USDT. If the lead trader’s gross profit this month is 5%, or 50 USDT, a copier on an exchange with a 0.05% Taker fee is down 150 USDT after fees. The lead trader’s gross return has to exceed “Taker × 2 × leverage × round trips” before the copier breaks even on fees, so when choosing a lead trader, trading frequency and leverage are worth checking before the profit share rate. Binance’s futures rebate has extra limits: it lasts 12 months from opening the futures account (no such limit when the referrer’s commission rate is 30% or more), and it stops once you reach VIP 3 or above (Binance Referral Pro FAQ). For the full calculation, see the real cost of copy trading; for the difference between LINE signal groups and exchange copy trading, see how to spot copy trading scams. Copy trading also uses leverage: if the market moves against you, the position may be liquidated and you can lose all the margin used for copying.

Which crypto exchange pays the highest USDT earn rate?

It depends on how much you deposit. Calculating a blended APR from the official tiered rates in the 2026-10-13 snapshot, the higher rates on 10,000 USDT were MEXC Earn Plus at 5.35%, WEEX Auto Earn at 3.63% and Ourbit spot Simple Earn at 3.20%; on just 1,000 USDT, the higher ones become XT at 5.65%, Ourbit at 5.00% and WEEX at 4.80%.

Sources and check dates: MEXC, WEEX and Ourbit are 2026-10-13 snapshots, XT is a 2026-10-12 snapshot. I calculated the blended APR from the official tiered rates, assuming the rates stay the same for a year; the method is explained in USDT flexible earn rates compared.

The advertised APR and what you actually get can differ a lot because of tiers: XT advertises 12%, but only the first 200 USDT gets it; 200 to 500 USDT earns 7%, and anything above 500 USDT earns 2.3%. MEXC’s Earn Plus works the other way: the larger the amount, the higher the tier rate, but above 110,000 USDT it drops to 2.0%. These are the exchanges’ own earn products, not bank deposits; they do not guarantee principal, and the rates change every day. Your assets also stay on the exchange, so the platform’s own risk still applies. ETH and SOL staking rates are covered separately in exchange staking rates compared; on 2026-10-21 the reference APR for ETH staking was 2.24% at Binance and 1.90% at OKX.

Which crypto exchange has the best security record, and how do you read proof of reserves?

No exchange can be called “safe”; the only thing you can compare is the past record. Filtering by two conditions, “no public record of a platform wallet hack” and “a proof-of-reserves snapshot from September 2026 or later”, the exchanges that meet both are OKX, MEXC and Gate, but each of the three has other records you should look at too.

Sources and check dates: compiled on 2026-10-12 from the OKX proof of reserves page, the Gate proof of reserves page and exchange announcements; MEXC’s figures are from its proof-of-reserves press release published in September 2026. The source for each entry is listed in exchange security records and proof of reserves compared. “Not found” means nothing turned up under the site’s source standards, not that it definitely never happened.

Of the other 10 exchanges, 7 have had platform wallets hacked, 8 times in total: Binance, KuCoin, HTX, BingX, XT, Bybit and Bitget. The largest was Bybit’s loss of 401,346 ETH on 2025-02-21; the most recent was Bitget on 2026-09-24, about USD 388 million, with withdrawals of all assets resuming after about 7.5 days. After all 8 incidents, the exchanges said the platform would cover user balances or that the hackers had returned the funds. The larger protection funds are Binance SAFU at 15,000 BTC and Bitget’s at 3,705 BTC, and both also have proof-of-reserves snapshots from September or later; if you care about compensation after a hack, you can add this to the comparison.

A reserve ratio above 100% only means that at the moment of the snapshot, the exchange’s wallets held at least as many coins as the user assets included in the calculation; it does not show the exchange’s own borrowing or other liabilities. MEXC’s 297% looks the highest, but it covers only 4,106.57 user BTC, against 688,572.68 at Binance, so read the percentage together with the scale. The most direct way to lower risk is not to keep all your assets on one exchange and to withdraw coins you are not trading long term to your own wallet; for protecting the account itself, see exchange account security settings.

Forgot the referral code: which exchange makes it easiest to add one later?

Ourbit is the most lenient: you can add a code as long as the account is not yet bound to a referrer. Next are MEXC and Binance, both within 30 days of sign-up, and Binance also requires no deposit and no trades. If you are already bound to someone else’s referral code, OKX is the only exchange that officially states you can apply to rebind; KuCoin has an Unlink Referrer request, but it doesn’t say whether you can then link a different referrer.

Sources and check dates: checked against each exchange’s official help pages on 2026-10-14, consistent with the add-later table in the exchange referral code roundup.

Within 14 days of sign-up, Bybit only lets you add an affiliate code from a promotion partner. KuCoin lets you submit a Link Referrer request under Self-Service in the Help Center, which it reviews; the time limit and conditions aren’t published (checked 2026-10-22). For Bitget, Gate, HTX, XT and WEEX, no add-later process could be found in the official help centers, which in practice means you can only enter a code at sign-up. Deleting your account and signing up again is not a good idea: Binance states that if it detects an account was closed and a new one opened to get referral benefits, it may end referral commission for the new account. For the steps and how to turn the deadline into a date, see can you add a referral code after signing up?; for rebinding, see the referral code rebind guide; if you are not sure who you are bound to, see how to check your referral code binding.

How to choose: 3 questions

  1. Do you mainly trade futures, spot, or copy trade? For futures, compare the VIP 0 Taker fee and the rate after the rebate; for spot, look at the low-fee exchanges such as Ourbit, MEXC and Pionex, then check whether the pair you want has an exception rate; for copy trading, look at the lead trader’s trading frequency and leverage first, then the fees.
  2. Which exchanges list the coins you want to buy? If you only buy major coins such as BTC and ETH, every exchange lists them, so just compare fees. For small or new coins, first check whether they are listed on exchanges with many coins, such as Gate, MEXC and XT, and also check that pair’s fee and order book depth.
  3. How long, and how much, will you keep there? For short-term trading, look at fees. If you plan to hold long term or put funds into earn products, check the security record and proof-of-reserves snapshots first; for earn, look at the blended APR rather than the advertised APR, and if the amount is large, spread it across different exchanges.

After answering the three questions, you will usually have two or three exchanges left. Before opening an account, you can compare their referral code rules and rebate rates in the exchange referral code roundup; for detailed head-to-head comparisons, see Binance vs OKX, Binance vs MEXC, MEXC vs Gate and Bybit vs Bitget.

FAQ

Which crypto exchange is best in 2026?

It depends on your use; no exchange ranks near the top on every item. By official data, the lowest VIP 0 futures Taker fee is MEXC at 0.02%, the lowest spot fee is Ourbit at 0%, and Gate has the most tradable spot coins at 2,032 (2026-10-21). Beginners can start with BingX and MEXC, which verify identity quickly and let you add a referral code later.

Which exchange should a beginner choose first?

In Taiwan, if you deposit New Taiwan dollars, your first account is usually MAX or BitoPro, where you buy USDT and then transfer it to an overseas exchange. Among overseas exchanges, BingX officially states KYC takes 2-10 minutes and lets you add a referral code before your first deposit, and MEXC states KYC usually takes under 15 minutes and lets you add a code within 30 days of sign-up, so mistakes are easier to fix.

Why is the order here different from the referral code roundup?

Because the two pages compare different things. The referral code roundup follows the exchange ranking methodology and sorts only by the exchange’s automatic fee rebate rate, from highest to lowest; this article looks at fees, number of coins, KYC time, earn rates and security records separately for each use, and every section states its metric. The roundup’s order is not adjusted for partnerships, and the order here also follows only the numbers in the tables.

Which crypto exchange has the lowest fees?

By official VIP 0 rates, the lowest futures fees are at MEXC (Maker 0%, Taker 0.02%) and the lowest spot fees are at Ourbit (0% for both Maker and Taker). The ranking after referral code rebates is updated daily according to the rebate rates; see lowest-fee crypto exchanges. Placing Maker orders often, trading large volume or holding a platform token will all change the order.

Which crypto exchange has the most coins to buy?

Reading the official APIs on 2026-10-21, Gate has the most tradable spot coins with 2,032, followed by MEXC with 1,408 and XT with 948; Binance has 512. At exchanges with many coins, small-coin pairs often have higher fees than major coins, so check that pair’s fee before you place an order.

If an exchange is hacked, can you get your money back?

In the 8 platform wallet hacks at the 13 exchanges the site covers, the exchanges all said afterwards that the platform would cover user balances or that the hackers had returned the funds, but that is how past cases were handled, not a guarantee. What users actually faced was a withdrawal suspension, about 7.5 days in Bitget’s 2026 case; each exchange’s record is in exchange security records.

Why is Bybit not in the futures fee comparison table?

Because signing up for Bybit with a referral code gets no exchange rebate for the invited user, so there is no after-rebate rate to calculate. Bybit’s VIP 0 perpetual futures fees are Maker 0.02% and Taker 0.055%. To get part of your fees back, you can use the rebate site Fee Otter; this rebate is paid by Fee Otter, not by the exchange and not by Kevin Wu. For the steps, see Bybit fee rebate (Fee Otter).

Can you trust exchange earn rates?

The advertised APR is the rate the exchange publishes, but 7 of the 13 exchanges use tiered rates for USDT flexible earn, and the top tier only applies to a small first slice of the amount. XT, for example, advertises 12%, but only the first 200 USDT gets it, and 10,000 USDT earns only about 2.63% overall (2026-10-12 snapshot). These products are not bank deposits and do not guarantee principal; when comparing, calculate the blended APR on your own amount. See USDT flexible earn rates compared.
