Updated Rules checked 2026-10-21
VIP 1 requirements vary a lot between exchanges. Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget, BingX and KuCoin all ask for 5 million to 10 million USD in 30-day futures volume, or 30,000 to 100,000 USD in account assets (KuCoin looks at 1,000 KCS instead). Gate, HTX and XT set the bar lower: an HTX account holding 5,000 USDT in assets is already Prime 1. Once you reach VIP 1, the futures Taker fee drops by only 0% to 10% at most exchanges, and at Binance, Bitget, Gate and KuCoin the VIP 1 futures Taker fee does not drop at all.
So someone trading a few hundred thousand USDT a month usually won’t reach VIP 1. Even if they do, the futures Taker saving is often under 10%, a figure you can compare directly with a referral code’s rebate rate. The two don’t conflict: the rebate is calculated on the fees you actually pay, so after a VIP upgrade you get part of a lower fee back. The catch is that Binance, Bitget and KuCoin state that rebates stop once the invited user reaches VIP 3, so high-volume traders should work out which side pays off first.
I’ve put the VIP 1 requirements and the VIP 0 to VIP 3 futures and spot Taker fees for the 13 exchanges this site covers on one page, and converted each VIP fee cut into “the equivalent rebate %” and worked out the break-even point when rebates stop. The full rules on which level ends the rebate are in Do referral rebates continue after a VIP upgrade?
Key points: Binance VIP 1 requires holding 5 BNB first, plus one of the following: 1 million USD in 30-day spot volume, 5 million USD in futures volume, 100,000 USD in assets, or 100,000 USD in net borrowing. Even at VIP 1, the USDⓈ-M futures Taker fee is still 0.05%. Bybit VIP 1 requires 100,000 USD in assets or 10 million USD in 30-day futures volume, and the futures Taker fee drops from 0.055% to 0.04%, one of the larger VIP 1 cuts among the 13 exchanges. HTX Prime 1 needs only 5,000 USDT in total assets as of the previous day, or 300,000 USDT in 30-day futures volume. MEXC has renamed its VIP program Alpha Trader; the lowest tier needs 10 million USDT in monthly volume, and the fees are not published. Binance, Bitget and KuCoin state that invited users at VIP 3 or above no longer generate referral commission.
The data below was checked against official pages on 2026-10-21 (data check date) and is provided for reference. Some fee pages require a login or only display in certain regions; for those, the figures carry over from this site’s per-exchange fee guides as checked on 2026-10-11, and each table notes this underneath.
How much volume or assets does VIP 1 require at each exchange?
Apart from Binance and MEXC, the other 11 exchanges upgrade you when you “meet any one” condition, and OKX, Bybit, Bitget and others also state that you get the highest level among the conditions you meet. The table lists VIP 1 only, with amounts in the unit each exchange uses (USD or USDT).
| Exchange | 30-day spot volume | 30-day futures volume | Assets | Exchange token | How conditions combine |

Sources and check dates: checked on 2026-10-21 were the Binance VIP program update announcement, the OKX fee page (assets and spot volume), Bybit Trading Fee Structure, the Bitget fee page (spot volume, assets, BGB), the MEXC Alpha Trader page and the official MEXC blog post, the Gate VIP page, the HTX fee page, WEEX futures VIP rules, Pionex VIP level rules and the Ourbit VIP page. Futures volume for OKX and Bitget, the BingX and KuCoin requirements, and the XT fee schedule carry over from this site’s 2026-10-11 check (BingX VIP guide, How to become a KuCoin VIP).
The table shows three things. First, the lowest bars are at Gate, HTX and XT: Gate counts futures at 40% toward 30-day volume, so a futures-only trader needs 150,000 USDT in futures to reach VIP 1; HTX Prime 1 takes 300,000 USDT in futures or 5,000 USDT in assets; XT takes 200,000 USDT in futures. Second, Binance is the only exchange where you must meet both the exchange-token condition and another condition, with VIP 1 to VIP 3 requiring 5, 25 and 100 BNB. Third, Ourbit’s public VIP page and its 2025 announcement for Taiwan users give different figures (the Taiwan table puts VIP 1 at 5 million USDT in futures volume). The page also states that fees vary by region, so Taiwan accounts should go by “My VIP Level” after logging in.
Volume is also counted differently. Binance’s spot volume includes margin, Convert, copy trading and bots, and OTC spot counts at 4x. Bybit states that copy trading, trading bots and sub-account volume all count (Bybit VIP Program FAQ). Bitget excludes zero-fee pairs and counts CFD futures at 10%. HTX counts its HTX token at 1.5x when calculating assets.
How much do VIP 1, VIP 2 and VIP 3 cut futures fees?
The table below shows Taker fees on USDT-margined perpetual futures. The “VIP 1 saving” column on the right converts the VIP 1 cut into a percentage so you can compare it directly with a rebate rate: for example, going from 0.05% to 0.045% means paying 10% less in fees.

HTX figures are for USDT-margined futures, and the HTX user agreement states that Taiwan users cannot trade derivatives. The Ourbit VIP page notes that fees vary by region; Ourbit’s 2024 announcement gave a general futures Taker fee of 0.04%, and your trade history is what counts.
In money terms it’s easier to feel. With 300,000 USDT in monthly futures volume, all as Taker, reaching VIP 1 saves you per month: 45 USDT each at Bybit and Ourbit, 30 USDT at BingX, 18 USDT at XT, 15 USDT each at OKX, HTX and WEEX, 6 USDT at Pionex, and 0 at Binance, Bitget, Gate and KuCoin. And that volume only reaches VIP 1 at HTX (exactly 300,000), XT (200,000) and Gate; at the other exchanges you would need to park assets. If you keep assets on an exchange just to level up, you also take on the exchange’s custody risk; each exchange’s proof of reserves is compared in Exchange proof of reserves compared.
Futures use leverage: if the price moves against you, your position may be liquidated and you can lose your entire margin. Fees are charged on position value, so the higher the leverage and the more often you trade, the more any fee difference matters; the math is in How futures fees are calculated. Switching to Maker orders usually does more than a VIP upgrade. For example, Binance futures at 0.05% Taker versus 0.02% Maker means paying 60% less; see Maker vs Taker fees.
Does VIP make a difference on spot fees?
Spot is similar: VIP 1 often lowers only the Maker fee, so people who use market orders don’t save anything. The table below shows spot Taker fees (standard pairs).
| Exchange | VIP 0 | VIP 1 | VIP 2 | VIP 3 | VIP 1 saving |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Binance | 0.1% | 0.1% | 0.1% | 0.06% | 0% |

On spot, watch the exchange-token discount. It stacks with VIP and is often more useful than VIP for smaller traders: paying spot fees in BNB on Binance gives 25% off, turning on BGB deduction at Bitget gives 20% off, HTX or TRX deduction at HTX gives 25% off, XT gives 25% off, paying in KCS at KuCoin gives 20% off, and GT deduction at Gate gives 10% off. Bitget VIP 0 with BGB deduction is 0.08%, already the same as the VIP 1 fee. For a comparison of VIP 0 fees across exchanges, see Lowest-fee crypto exchanges.
VIP upgrade or referral rebate: which saves more?
In most cases you can have both. At exchanges that state how the rebate is calculated, it is based on the fees you actually pay, so your effective fee = VIP fee × (1 − rebate rate), with the two discounts multiplied. For example, OKX VIP 1 futures Taker is 0.045%; at a 20% rebate rate, the effective fee is 0.045% × 0.8 = 0.036%.
The table below puts the VIP 1 saving next to the current automatic fee rebate from the exchange with this site’s referral code. Both are “how many % less you pay in fees”, so the bigger number saves more; rebate rates are synced with the exchanges daily.
| Exchange | VIP 1 futures Taker saving | VIP 1 futures requirement | Current rebate with this site’s code |
|---|---|---|---|
| Binance | 0% | 5 BNB + 5 million USD | 20% |
| OKX | 10% | 5 million USD | 20% |
| Bitget | 0% | 5 million USDT | 20% |
| Gate | 0% | 150,000 USDT (counted at 40%) | 20% |
| BingX | 20% | 10 million USDT | 45% |

| Pionex | 4% | 3 million USDT | 15% (fee reduction) |
| Ourbit | 30% | 1 million USDT | Futures 50%; spot has zero fees, so no rebate |
| MEXC | Not stated officially | 10 million USDT per month | 20% |
| Bybit | 27.3% | 10 million USD | No automatic fee rebate from the exchange; see the Fee Otter note below |
Sources: VIP fees as in the futures fee table in the previous section. Rebate rates are synced with the exchanges daily by this site; the method is explained in How the rebate data is calculated, and each exchange’s terms are in All exchange referral codes.
Bybit has no automatic fee rebate from the exchange on this site; the rebate route is Fee Otter. Fee Otter’s rebate page lists Bybit at 40% (viewed 2026-10-17). That extra rebate is paid by Fee Otter, not by the exchange and not by Kevin Wu, and the rate is whatever Fee Otter’s page shows. At 40%, a VIP 0 futures Taker fee of 0.055% comes to 0.033% after the rebate, lower than the 0.04% VIP 1 fee. Neither Fee Otter nor Bybit states whether you keep this rebate after a VIP upgrade. The steps are in Bybit fee rebate.
When rebates stop at a VIP level: how to find the break-even point
The real choice comes at exchanges where rebates stop at a certain level. Compare the fee at the last level before the cutoff × (1 − rebate rate) with the fee at the cutoff level, which has no rebate. The resulting “break-even rebate rate” = 1 − (fee at the cutoff level ÷ fee at the level below). If your rebate rate is above this figure, staying at the lower level saves more; if it is below, upgrading saves more.
| Exchange | Rebate stops at | Futures Taker: VIP 2 → VIP 3 | Futures break-even | Spot Taker: VIP 2 → VIP 3 | Spot break-even | VIP 3 requirement (any one) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Binance | VIP 3 and above | 0.04% → 0.032% | 20% | 0.1% → 0.06% | 40% | 100 BNB + 50 million USD futures, 20 million USD spot, or 1 million USD assets, among others |
| Bitget (standard referral) | VIP 3 and above | 0.04% → 0.0375% | 6.25% | 0.07% → 0.06% | 14.3% | 20 million USDT futures, 8 million USDT spot, or 250,000 USDT assets |
| KuCoin | VIP 3 and above | 0.06% → 0.06% | 0% | 0.1% → 0.09% | 10% | 16 million USDT futures, 6 million USDT spot, or 20,000 KCS |
Sources: the levels where rebates stop come from the Binance Referral Pro FAQ, Bitget referral program rules and the KuCoin referral program. Fees and requirements are as in the tables above (Binance and KuCoin fees checked on 2026-10-21; Bitget futures fees and KuCoin requirements checked on 2026-10-11). Bitget’s partner program does not mention a VIP limit.
Here is one worked example with Binance: 60 million USDT in monthly futures volume, all as Taker, which is already above the 50 million USD VIP 3 requirement. At VIP 3 there is no rebate, and fees are 60,000,000 × 0.032% = 19,200 USDT. Staying at VIP 2 with the rebate, fees are 60,000,000 × 0.04% = 24,000 USDT, multiplied by (1 − rebate rate). At a 20% rebate that also comes to exactly 19,200 USDT; above 20%, VIP 2 saves more. Binance VIP always requires holding enough BNB first, so someone holding only 25 to 99 BNB stays at VIP 2 however large their volume, which in effect lets you choose. The current rebate with this site’s Binance referral code is 20% (updated 2026-10-23). Note that Binance’s futures rebate runs for 12 months from when the futures account is opened (no time limit if the referrer’s futures commission is 30% or more); after that period, the comparison comes down to VIP fees alone.
KuCoin gives the clearest answer: futures Taker is 0.06% at both VIP 2 and VIP 3, so moving up to VIP 3 doesn’t lower the fee but does end the rebate. For mostly futures Taker trading, staying at VIP 2 always saves more. However, KuCoin and Bitget both upgrade you automatically when you “meet any one” condition, so once your volume or token holdings qualify you move up, and you can’t choose. Binance also states that if an invited user drops back below VIP 2, referral commission resumes.
At other exchanges, rebates stop at much higher levels: at OKX, VIP 5 and VIP 6 have a monthly cap and VIP 7 and above earn no commission; at Gate it is VIP 11 and above; at HTX it is Prime 9 and above (invited users are capped at Prime 8 by default). At Pionex, if the referrer is not a KOL, the referrer no longer gets the full commission once the invited user reaches VIP 2 or above. MEXC’s 2025 VIP announcement stated that invited users cannot join VIP; the page renamed Alpha Trader doesn’t mention invited users, and it is not stated officially whether that rule still applies.
How often are VIP levels updated? Is there a grace period before a downgrade?
- Binance: automatic upgrades daily at 08:00 UTC (16:00 Taiwan time) (VIP program update announcement). For users invited before 2026-07-21, a transition period kept referral commission on the old VIP 3 requirements; it ended on 2026-10-21 at 08:00 (UTC).
- OKX: daily snapshot at 0:00 (UTC+8), with levels updated between 4:00 and 6:00.
- Bybit: updated daily at 7:00 UTC (15:00 Taiwan time). If you no longer qualify, there is a 14-day grace period during which you keep VIP, and the level is removed only if you still don’t qualify when it ends (Bybit VIP Program FAQ, updated 2026-08-09).
- Bitget: updated daily at 09:00 (UTC+8); if risk control rules are triggered, the platform can adjust your VIP level.
- MEXC: takes effect the day after you qualify; accounts below the requirement are downgraded automatically on the 1st of each month at 16:00 (UTC).
- Gate: expected to update within 3 hours of qualifying. If you were upgraded on 30-day volume, you keep the level for 60 days, then drop one level every 15 days; upgrades based on assets or GT have no level protection.
- BingX: updated daily at 03:00 (UTC+8).
- KuCoin: the recalculation time for standard VIP is not stated officially; VIP 5 and above have quarterly protection and drop at most one level every 30 days.
- HTX: the previous 30 days of volume are settled daily at 00:00 (GMT+8); assets are snapshotted hourly and the 24-hour average is used.
- XT: updated daily at 11:00 Taiwan time; the first time you reach VIP 1 or above, you get a 30-day protection period.
- WEEX: the recalculation time is not stated officially; if you no longer qualify, there is 14-day downgrade protection.
- Pionex: net assets are snapshotted daily at 00:00 UTC (08:00 Taiwan time), and the highest level you qualify for is applied automatically.
- Ourbit: updated daily between 0:00 and 8:00 (UTC+8); the level protection period is 5 to 20 days, but Ourbit states that level protection does not include the discounted fees.

Are there VIP trial cards or VIP fast-track upgrades?
A few exchanges offer them, but mostly for large traders who are already VIP at another exchange:
- Bybit: a VIP Trial Card lets people who don’t yet qualify use the VIP 1 fee discount first, with the trial length set by the campaign rules. The card must be claimed within 30 days of being issued, and it does not come with the 14-day VIP protection (Bybit VIP Trial Card guide).
- BingX: apply for a VIP trial (VIP+2) with proof of volume or assets at another exchange, up to VIP 5; each person can apply only once (BingX VIP page).
- Gate: if your VIP level, volume or assets at another exchange meet Gate’s standard, you can apply for a direct VIP+2 upgrade; the VIP page also lists “invite friends and give them a VIP trial card” as a VIP benefit (Gate VIP page).
- KuCoin: if you are VIP at another exchange or broker, or your volume meets KuCoin’s standard, you can apply to move up 2 levels, and KuCoin gets in touch within 48 hours (KuCoin VIP page).
- MEXC: if your volume or assets at another exchange meet the Alpha Trader standard, you can apply for a trial one Alpha Trader tier higher, and a dedicated contact reaches out within 3 to 5 business days.
- Ourbit: people who are already VIP at Binance, OKX, Bybit or similar exchanges upload proof from the last 30 days and, once approved, get a 30-day VIP trial (checked 2026-10-11).
Trial cards and fast-track upgrades only give you a lower fee temporarily; when they expire, your actual volume and assets decide your level again. For people whose monthly volume isn’t large, the fee cut is as limited as the figures above show.
FAQ
How much trading volume does exchange VIP 1 require?
At most large exchanges, VIP 1 requires 5 million to 10 million USD in 30-day futures volume, or 500,000 to 1 million USD in spot. Binance, OKX, Bitget and KuCoin set the futures requirement at 5 million, and Bybit and BingX at 10 million. The low requirements are at XT (200,000 USDT in futures), HTX (300,000 USDT) and Gate (60,000 USD in 30-day total volume, with futures counted at 40%).
Which exchange has the lowest VIP requirements?
Among the 13 exchanges, the lowest requirements are at Gate, HTX and XT. Gate VIP 1 needs only 2,000 USD in assets or a 14-day average of 50 GT, and HTX Prime 1 needs 5,000 USDT in assets. However, Gate’s VIP 1 and VIP 2 futures fees are the same as VIP 0, and HTX Prime 1 only lowers the futures Taker fee from 0.06% to 0.055%. A low requirement doesn’t mean you save more; what matters is how much the next level cuts.
Can I still get the referral rebate after upgrading to VIP?
At most levels, yes. The rebate is calculated on the actual fees charged at your VIP rate, so the effective fee = VIP fee × (1 − rebate rate). The exceptions are Binance, Bitget (standard referral) and KuCoin, which state that invited users at VIP 3 or above no longer generate commission; OKX, Gate and HTX only set limits at very high levels. The full rules are in Do referral rebates continue after a VIP upgrade?
Is a VIP upgrade or a referral rebate the better deal?
If your volume hasn’t reached a VIP requirement yet, the referral rebate is the more practical option, because it starts from your first trade and needs no volume or assets. If you have already reached VIP, you can usually get both. You only need to compare “fee at the lower level × (1 − rebate rate)” with “fee at the next level” at the level where rebates stop; for example, the futures break-even for going from Binance VIP 2 to VIP 3 is a 20% rebate.
Can holding an exchange token get me VIP?
Yes, but the rules differ. Binance’s BNB is a required condition (VIP 1 needs 5 BNB plus any one other condition). Bitget’s BGB, Gate’s GT, KuCoin’s KCS, HTX’s HTX and WEEX’s WXT can each qualify you on their own. XT counts the value of its XT token toward assets at 1.4x or more. OKX states that holding OKB does not affect your fee level. If you buy an exchange token to level up, you also take on its price swings.
Is there a grace period before a VIP downgrade?
Some exchanges have one. Bybit and WEEX give 14 days, XT gives a 30-day protection period after your first upgrade, and Gate keeps volume-based levels for 60 days. Ourbit’s level protection does not include the discounted fees, and MEXC downgrades directly on the 1st of each month. I found no grace period rules in the VIP guides of Binance, OKX, Bitget, BingX or Pionex.
What happened to MEXC VIP?
MEXC’s VIP program has been renamed Alpha Trader. The official MEXC blog states that the revamp was completed in April 2026. The lowest tier, A1, requires 10 million USDT in monthly non-zero-fee volume or 30 million USDT in zero-fee volume, and you must first reach VVIP Elite (an M-Score of 800 or more). The fees for each tier are not published officially, and the page shows “No Data” when you are not logged in.
Are Binance VIP 1 fees lower?
Only the Maker fee is lower; the Taker fee doesn’t change. Binance VIP 1 spot is 0.09% Maker and 0.1% Taker, and USDⓈ-M futures are 0.018% Maker and 0.05% Taker (fee page, 2026-10-21). The futures Taker fee only drops to 0.04% at VIP 2, and spot Taker only drops to 0.06% at VIP 3, the level at which referral commission stops.
Each exchange’s full VIP table and exchange-token discounts are in its fee guide: Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget, MEXC, Gate, BingX, KuCoin, HTX, XT, WEEX, Pionex, Ourbit.
