BTCC Review: Is It Safe? Fees, Withdrawals, Reserves, Security (2026)

Updated Rules checked 2026-10-19

Whether BTCC is safe comes down to its record. BTCC was founded in June 2011 and calls itself the longest-running cryptocurrency exchange in the world. I found no hack of the platform in major media or in BTCC’s own materials, and BTCC itself writes that “no user has lost assets to a hacker attack to date.” In the latest proof of reserves (2026-10-15), the reserve ratios of six coins range from 111% to 160%, but BTCC publishes only the ratios, not the amounts.

The points to watch are just as concrete. BTCC’s spot fees are 0.3% Taker and 0.2% Maker, and that Taker rate is higher than at any of the 13 exchanges this site covers; futures VIP 0 is 0.03% Maker and 0.055% Taker. BTCC’s New Taiwan dollar (TWD) withdrawal is currently suspended, so Taiwan users have to move USDT out on-chain. In 2026 BTCC’s exchange app was pulled from app stores in South Korea, and in October South Korea also blocked its website.

This article gives no star rating. It puts the company background, fees, deposits and withdrawals, identity verification, reserves, security and regulatory record, restricted regions and products into one reference, and every figure comes with a source on a BTCC official page or in a media report.

Key takeaways: BTCC was founded in June 2011. It started out in China as BTCChina, stopped trading inside China on 2017-09-30 in response to a Chinese regulatory announcement, and was acquired by a Hong Kong blockchain investment fund in January 2018. Futures VIP 0 fees are 0.03% Maker and 0.055% Taker, and spot is 0.3% Taker and 0.2% Maker at every VIP level. In BTCC’s 2026-10-15 proof of reserves, the reserve ratios were BTC 147%, ETH 123% and USDT 115%; BTCC did not publish asset amounts or name a third-party auditor. The BTCC terms of service list the United States and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec as prohibited regions, and on 2026-10-13 South Korea announced that it had blocked the websites of 27 unregistered operators, BTCC among them. BTCC’s liquidation fee is 1% of position value (9 trading pairs, including BTC and ETH) or 1.2% (other pairs), far higher than the regular trading fees.

The information below was verified against official pages on 2026-10-19 (data check date) and is provided for reference.

What is BTCC, and how long has it been around?

According to the BTCC About Us page, BTCC was founded in June 2011. BTCC calls itself “the world’s longest-serving cryptocurrency exchange,” and the page states 11 million registered users (11M). In its early years BTCC operated in China under the name BTCChina. After Chinese regulators banned ICOs on 2017-09-04, BTCC announced that it would stop all trading inside China on 2017-09-30 (CoinDesk). On 2018-01-29 BTCC announced that it had been acquired by a Hong Kong blockchain investment fund; neither the buyer nor the price was disclosed (Bloomberg).

Who signs the contract with users today? The BTCC terms of service name BTCC POLAND LIMITED (a Polish company, registration number 0001129321). The terms are governed by Polish law and state that the company is supervised by Poland’s General Inspector of Financial Information (GIIF). The page description of BTCC’s Traditional Chinese About page says it “holds cryptocurrency financial licenses in the United States, Canada and Europe,” while the English copy lists US FinCEN, Canada’s FINTRAC and the Lithuanian Register of Legal Entities. The official pages give no registration numbers, and I did not find matching records for each of them in these regulators’ databases. The same terms of service also list the United States as a prohibited country.

What are BTCC’s fees?

BTCC’s futures fees go down as your VIP level rises, while spot fees are the same at every level. The table shows the rates for regular users (VIP 0):

MarketMakerTakerSource

The VIP 1 threshold is low. You need any one of these: total account assets of 200 USDT, 500,000 USDT in 30-day futures volume or 100,000 USDT in 30-day spot volume. The VIP FAQ also says a VIP 0 account moves up to VIP 1 immediately once cumulative deposits reach 200 USDT. VIP levels update daily at 17:00 (UTC), and from VIP 1 up, withdrawal fees also get a 10% discount. The top tier, VIP 7, takes 3 million USDT in assets or 1 billion USDT in 30-day futures volume and brings futures down to 0.01% Maker and 0.015% Taker.

With real amounts: buying or selling 10,000 USDT of spot costs 30 USDT as a taker and 20 USDT as a maker; on an exchange with 0.1% spot fees, the same amount costs 10 USDT. Open a 10x futures position with 1,000 USDT of margin and the position value is 10,000 USDT. Taking liquidity on both the open and the close costs 10,000 × 0.055% × 2 = 11 USDT, which is 1.1% of the margin. With leverage, if the market moves against you, the position may be liquidated. At 1 million USDT of futures volume a month, all as taker, VIP 0 pays 550 USDT and VIP 1 pays 500 USDT. Among the 13 exchanges this site tracks, MEXC comes to 200 USDT, Binance and OKX to 500 USDT, and Bitget, KuCoin and HTX to 600 USDT (lowest-fee crypto exchanges).

BTCC’s 0.03% Maker is higher than the 0.02% common among the 13, its 0.055% Taker matches Bybit, and its 0.3% spot Taker is higher even than the highest of the 13, XT and HTX (0.2%). The funding fee is position value × funding rate and has nothing to do with leverage. BTCC’s own example: holding a 1 BTC long at a price of 95,000 USDT with a 0.02% funding rate, you pay 19 USDT for that period. In volatile markets BTCC can raise the collection frequency above 3 times a day (BTCC funding fee explainer). The full fee schedule is in the BTCC fees guide, and to add trading fees and funding together you can use the perpetual futures cost calculator.

How do BTCC deposits and withdrawals work? What are the USDT withdrawal fees?

BTCC charges no fee for crypto deposits. The USDT minimum is 1 USDT per deposit, and deposits below the minimum are not credited. Withdrawals carry a fixed fee per transaction that depends on the network:

USDT networkWithdrawal feeMinimum deposit
Solana (SOL)1 USDT1 USDT
TRON (TRC20)1.5 USDT1 USDT
BNB Smart Chain (BEP20)2 USDT1 USDT
Ethereum (ERC20)2 USDT1 USDT
Arbitrum One5 USDT1 USDT
Avalanche (C-Chain)5 USDT1 USDT
Optimism (OP Mainnet)5 USDT1 USDT
Polygon (POL)5 USDT1 USDT

Source: BTCC deposit and withdrawal configuration data, verified 2026-10-19; USDT-OMNI is closed. The fee shown on the withdrawal page is what applies. BTCC does not state the minimum withdrawal amount, so check it on the withdrawal page.

BTCC’s cheapest USDT network is Solana at 1 USDT. TRC20 costs 1.5 USDT, the same as TRC20 on Binance and OKX, but BEP20 on Binance costs just 0.01 USDT, while BTCC charges 2 USDT for BEP20 (see the USDT withdrawal fee comparison). On BTCC, ERC20 costs only 2 USDT, which makes it cheaper than Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon and Avalanche at 5 USDT.

BTCC’s official rules on withdrawal review and limits:

  • System review usually finishes within 10 minutes. A few withdrawals go to manual review, which may ask you to submit supporting documents (BTCC withdrawal review rules).
  • After you change or reset your login password or fund password, or change your phone number or email, withdrawals are suspended for 24 hours, and the hold cannot be lifted early. After a fiat deposit, it also usually takes about 24 hours before you can withdraw (BTCC account change and withdrawal security rules).
  • TWD withdrawals are currently suspended: the “How to withdraw fiat” help page says “this withdrawal method is not supported for now,” and the review rules page says fiat withdrawal is “unavailable during system maintenance” (BTCC fiat withdrawal guide).
  • The withdrawal network must match the receiving side; if you pick the wrong network, the assets may not be recoverable (BTCC withdrawal tutorial). If it happens, see what to do after sending on the wrong network.

A common route for Taiwan users is to buy USDT with TWD on MAX or BitoPro, send it on-chain to BTCC, and do the reverse on the way back. Before you send, check that the receiving deposit page supports the network you chose.

Does BTCC require KYC? What are the limits at each level?

BTCC’s identity verification has two levels: identity information verification first, then face verification. The benefits table on the official help page (BTCC identity verification guide) looks like this:

ItemUnverifiedIdentity information verifiedFace verified
Daily withdrawal limit10,000 USDT100,000 USDT1,000,000 USDT
Fiat deposit (buy crypto) limitNot available2,000 USDT cumulativeUnlimited
Crypto depositsUnlimitedUnlimitedUnlimited

Source: the benefits table in the BTCC Help Center article “What is identity verification (KYC)? How do I complete it?” (the table image is marked as updated in November 2023), viewed 2026-10-19.

BTCC says review usually takes under 5 minutes. You can use a national ID card, driver’s license, passport or residence permit; one identity can verify only one account, and users under 18 cannot verify (BTCC identity verification FAQ). The help page’s walkthrough uses a Taiwan ID document as its example. The VIP page also states that the VIP “24-hour extra withdrawal limit” is only available to accounts that have completed face verification. The full sign-up and verification steps are in the BTCC sign-up and KYC guide.

Does BTCC have proof of reserves? What are the reserve ratios?

Yes. BTCC publishes a Merkle tree proof of reserves on its BTCC proof of reserves page, and its Trust Center states that it is published once a month; logged-in users can verify it with their own leaf node hash. BTCC publishes only the reserve ratio (platform reserves ÷ user assets), not the asset amounts. The last 7 periods:

Three things to know about this table. First, all 6 coins were above 100% in all 7 periods; the lowest was USDC on 2026-08-15 and 10-15 (112%, 111%). Second, the numbers swing quite a bit: USDT fell from 165% in September to 115% in October, and BTCC gave no reason. Because amounts are not published, you cannot tell whether user assets grew or platform reserves shrank. Third, the page names no third-party auditor. A ratio above 100% only means that the user assets counted at the time of the snapshot were backed by matching coins; it does not include company liabilities. For other exchanges, see the exchange proof of reserves comparison.

BTCC also has a company-funded risk reserve, which stood at USD 25.5 million as of July 2026 and is used to compensate for losses beyond margin and for platform malfunctions. It was funded with an initial 1 million USDT plus 5% of fee revenue. BTCC also notes that it has the final say in interpreting the fund and can stop using it or change how it is used at any time (BTCC risk reserve explainer).

Has BTCC been hacked? What is its regulatory record?

Compiled from BTCC official materials and major media reports, as of 2026-10-19:

  • Hacks: I found no record of theft from the BTCC platform in major media reports. BTCC’s Trust Center lists 0 security incidents and 0 “user asset losses caused by hacker attacks to date”; this is BTCC’s own claim, not a third-party certification.
  • 2017-09-30: BTCC stopped trading inside China following an announcement by Chinese regulators; the international site and the mining pool kept running as usual (CoinDesk).
  • June 2026: because BTCC was not registered in South Korea, Google and Apple stopped offering the BTCC exchange app for download in their Korean stores. About two months later BTCC added trading to its BTCC Wallet app and resumed service to Korean users (Seoul Economic Daily, 2026-10-01); that app was later removed from the Apple and Google stores as well (Seoul Economic Daily, 2026-10-13).
  • 2026-10-13: South Korea’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) announced that the Korea Communications Standards Commission had blocked access in South Korea to the websites of 27 unregistered virtual asset operators, including BTCC, KuCoin, MEXC and Phemex (Seoul Economic Daily, 2026-10-13).

BTCC is not among the 8 exchange theft incidents this site has compiled. For the records of the other 12 exchanges and a comparison of incidents, see the exchange safety record.

Which countries can’t use BTCC?

Section 2.3, “Prohibited Countries,” of the BTCC terms of service lists the United States (including its territories), the Canadian province of Ontario and the Canadian province of Quebec, and BTCC can add others at its own discretion. Section 2 also excludes regions under comprehensive sanctions by Poland, the EU or the UN, citing the annex to EU Regulation No 833/2014 concerning Russia. The page data show that these terms were last modified on 2026-10-19, so check the latest version yourself before you use the platform.

The official terms do not list South Korea, yet South Korea has already blocked BTCC’s website, so a short list in the terms does not mean BTCC can be used everywhere else. For a table of restricted regions at each exchange, see the exchange restricted countries list.

What products does BTCC offer?

  • Perpetual futures: USDT-margined, USDC-margined and coin-margined. The homepage states up to 250x leverage, and the Trust Center says there are more than 400 perpetual futures pairs (BTCC homepage). Crypto futures carry no overnight interest (BTCC overnight interest explainer).
  • Spot: 357 trading pairs on 2026-10-19, 351 quoted in USDT and 6 in USDC (spot pair data). Convert also runs through spot trading, with USDT as the intermediate coin.
  • Futures copy trading: copiers share 10% to 15% of their profits with the lead trader, in 4 tiers based on the size of the lead trader’s copy trading over the past 30 days (BTCC copy trading FAQ). For how to work out what copy trading costs, see copy trading costs.
  • TradFi: price contracts on gold, crude oil, indices, forex and stocks, with USDT as margin; you do not actually own the stocks or the gold. These products charge overnight interest when a position is held past the daily settlement time (BTCC TradFi guide).
  • Earn: flexible and fixed-term products. Fixed-term is open only to new users within 7 days of registering, and early redemption earns no interest (BTCC Earn FAQ). The Earn page shows “300% annualized yield for new users” and “principal and interest guaranteed,” and it does not state the maximum eligible amount (BTCC Earn).
  • Demo trading: 100,000 USDT in virtual funds for practicing USDT-margined and coin-margined futures (BTCC website menu).

Does BTCC have an app? How do I contact support?

BTCC’s homepage offers three download options: iOS (App Store), Google Play and an Android APK. Support channels include online customer service (Live Chat) on the website and in the app, and email at [email protected]; its Traditional Chinese social accounts are on LINE and Instagram (BTCC social account list).

Plenty of accounts impersonate BTCC. At the bottom of its website BTCC provides an “Official Verification Channel” where you can enter a social account ID, email address or URL to check whether it is official. BTCC specifically warns that on Telegram you should check the username, not the bio, because scam accounts often pose as official in their bio (BTCC official verification channel explainer). Common tactics are covered in crypto exchange scam types.

What are BTCC’s pros and cons?

ProsCons

Who is BTCC a good fit for?

Going by its fees and products, BTCC fits these uses best:

  • People who mainly trade futures with modest monthly volume: a 200 USDT deposit gets you to VIP 1 with a 0.05% Taker, so you get a VIP rate without chasing volume.
  • People who want to trade price contracts on gold, indices or US stocks from the same account: TradFi uses USDT margin.
  • Beginners who want to get used to the futures interface on a demo account first: there are 100,000 USDT in virtual funds.

Where it fits less well: people who mainly trade spot, since the 0.3% Taker is 3 times that of a 0.1% exchange, or 20 USDT more for every 10,000 USDT traded; people who need to withdraw TWD straight to a bank, since that feature is currently suspended; and people in the United States or in Ontario or Quebec, Canada, where the terms prohibit use. If reserve transparency matters to you, also weigh the fact that only ratios are published.

What are the risks of using BTCC?

  • Leverage risk: with leverage, if the market moves against you, the position may be liquidated and you may lose all of your margin. BTCC’s homepage advertises up to 250x; the higher the leverage, the smaller the adverse price move needed to trigger liquidation. You can estimate the liquidation price first with the liquidation price calculator.
  • Liquidation fee: 1% for 9 trading pairs, including BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL and DOGE, and 1.2% for all others, calculated as liquidated quantity × liquidation price. If a 10x BTC futures position opened with 1,000 USDT of margin is liquidated, the liquidation fee alone is 10,000 × 1% = 100 USDT, and BTCC also reserves the right to adjust the rate without notice (BTCC liquidation fee explainer).
  • Platform risk: proof of reserves is only a snapshot and does not include company liabilities. BTCC’s official pages do not mention any deposit insurance, and BTCC alone decides how the risk reserve is used.
  • Regulatory risk: South Korea blocked BTCC’s website and app on the grounds that it is unregistered. Other regions may take similar action, and if they do, access or withdrawals may be affected.
  • Earn labels: “principal and interest guaranteed” and “300% annualized” are labels on a new-user promotion. The actual limits and conditions are whatever the page states, and a platform’s promise is not deposit protection.

Cross and isolated margin differ in how much you can lose; see cross vs isolated margin. For placing orders and settings on BTCC futures, see the BTCC futures guide.

FAQ

Is BTCC safe?

No exchange can guarantee safety. BTCC’s record: founded in 2011, no reports of a platform hack in major media, and a BTC reserve ratio of 147% in the 2026-10-15 proof of reserves. To weigh alongside that: BTCC publishes only ratios, not amounts, it names no third-party auditor, and South Korea blocked BTCC’s website in 2026.

Which country is BTCC from?

BTCC started out in China in 2011 as BTCChina and was acquired by a Hong Kong blockchain investment fund in 2018. The contracting entity in its current terms of service is a Polish company, BTCC POLAND LIMITED, and the terms are governed by Polish law.

Has BTCC been hacked?

I found no record of theft from the BTCC platform in major media reports, and BTCC officially reports 0 security incidents. This reflects the record as of 2026-10-19 and does not mean it cannot happen in the future.

Are BTCC’s fees high?

Futures are close to the norm and spot is on the high side: futures VIP 0 is 0.03% Maker and 0.055% Taker, and spot is 0.3% Taker and 0.2% Maker at every level. Once 200 USDT in cumulative deposits lifts you to VIP 1, the futures Taker drops to 0.05%, while spot rates stay the same.

Can I withdraw from BTCC to a bank in Taiwan?

Not at the moment: BTCC’s TWD withdrawal is marked “not supported for now.” The usual route is to transfer USDT to MAX or BitoPro and convert it to TWD under that platform’s rules. Withdrawing USDT from BTCC costs 1.5 USDT on TRC20 and 1 USDT on Solana (2026-10-19).

How long do BTCC withdrawals take?

BTCC says system review usually finishes within 10 minutes; after that, the arrival time depends on blockchain confirmation speed. A few withdrawals go to manual review, and you cannot withdraw for 24 hours after changing your password, phone number or email.

Can I use BTCC without KYC?

You can trade and withdraw, but the daily withdrawal limit is 10,000 USDT and you cannot buy crypto with fiat. With identity information verification the limit is 100,000 USDT a day, and with face verification it is 1,000,000 USDT.

Can BTCC’s proof of reserves be trusted?

BTCC publishes a Merkle tree proof around the 15th of each month, users can verify for themselves whether their account was included, and in the latest period all 6 coins were above 100%. The limitation is that only ratios are published, not amounts, and no third-party auditor is named, so there is no way to check from outside how many assets the platform holds.

BTCC’s full fee schedule is in the BTCC fees guide, the sign-up and identity verification steps are in the BTCC sign-up and KYC guide, and futures trading is covered in the BTCC futures guide. To compare reserves and safety records across exchanges, see the exchange proof of reserves comparison and the exchange safety record; restricted regions are in the exchange restricted countries list, and referral codes for other exchanges are in the crypto exchange referral codes overview.
