Updated Rules checked 2026-10-11
On HTX, the invitation code goes in the “Invitation code (optional)” field on the sign-up page. HTX’s help pages don’t describe any way to add or change a referrer after sign-up, so if you already have an account and want to switch, there’s really only one route: open a new account with an email address or phone number that has never been registered on HTX. That route comes with limits HTX states in writing, including that one identity can verify only one account and that re-registering after deleting an account doesn’t count as a valid referral. This guide puts HTX’s official rules together with the conditions and risks of the new-account approach, and covers the steps if you go through Fee Otter.
The official rules below were checked on 2026-10-11 and are shared for reference.
Can you switch your HTX referral code?
| Situation | Possible? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Not signed up yet | Yes | When signing up, expand “Invitation code (optional)” and make sure it holds the code you want before you submit |
| Signed up without an invitation code | No way to add one found in official pages | Your only option is a new account; see the conditions and risks below |
| Signed up with a referrer | No way to change it found in official pages | Same as above: only a new account |
| Old account already identity-verified | The new account can’t be verified with the same identity | Keep the new account unverified and live with its withdrawal limits, or first apply to delete the old account (re-registering after deletion doesn’t count as a valid referral) |
| Old account never identity-verified | The new account can be verified with your identity | Register a new account with a new email address or phone number, then complete verification |
Not signed up for HTX yet: where do you enter the invitation code?
HTX’s sign-up page has an “Invitation code (optional)” field that is collapsed by default. If you open the page from a referral link, the code is usually filled in already, but expand the field and check it once before you submit. HTX’s referral program rules say the referrer earns commission on the invitee’s net trading fees only if the invitee registers through the invitation link or invitation code, and that this is permanent (HTX invite-to-trade reward rules).
The custom invitation code feature, launched in July 2025, lets referrers set the share of rewards they pass to friends themselves (HTX custom invitation code announcement). The share an invitee gets may vary a lot from one HTX invitation code to another, so check how much the code you’re using gives you before you sign up.
Already signed up for HTX: can you still add or change the invitation code?
HTX’s referral rules, its custom invitation code announcement, and its registration FAQ say nothing about how an existing account can add or change a referrer, and there’s no page like the time-limited add-a-code pages Binance and Bybit have. Fee Otter’s HTX guide also says the invitation code can only be entered at sign-up and can’t be changed once bound. Whether you left the code blank or entered someone else’s, the referral on your old account can’t be touched.
What conditions apply to opening a new HTX account to switch?
The switching method Fee Otter describes is to register again from a link that carries the invitation code, using an email address or phone number that has never been registered on HTX, and then trade on the new account from then on. Before you do anything, read the official rules below carefully.
One email address or phone number can register only one account
HTX’s registration FAQ states that the system supports only one account per phone number or email address (HTX registration and login FAQ). The new account has to use different contact details.
One identity can verify only one account
HTX’s identity verification FAQ states that one identity can verify only one account; if you previously registered and verified, log in with that original account or apply to delete the old one. Once identity details pass review, they normally can’t be unbound (HTX identity verification FAQ). In other words, if your old account is already verified, the new account can’t be verified with your identity again. Never borrow someone else’s identity details. That violates the HTX user agreement: if the registration details aren’t your own or aren’t accurate, HTX can restrict withdrawals and freeze or close the account (HTX user agreement).
Re-registering after deleting an account isn’t a valid referral
To move your identity verification to a new account, you’d first have to delete the old one. The problem is that the terms of HTX’s referral reward program state: “If a deleted account registers again, it is treated as an invalid referral and no rebate rewards are provided.” The same terms also say that rebates that break risk-control rules (including existing users posing as newly invited users) will be intercepted and not paid (HTX referral reward program terms). These terms were published in 2022 and are still on HTX’s website. So “delete the old account and register again” isn’t recommended as a way to switch.
What HTX says about one person opening several accounts
The HTX user agreement (updated 2026-09) doesn’t explicitly ban one person from opening several accounts. However, the referral rules state that participants involved in fraud such as money laundering, controlling multiple accounts, or self-dealing trades will be disqualified, and HTX has the right to freeze accounts and confiscate improper gains. Opening just one new account and trading normally isn’t the same as “controlling multiple accounts”, but HTX doesn’t state officially how it makes that call. If you hold a lot of assets, it’s best to ask HTX support before moving them.
How much an unverified new account can withdraw
HTX’s own materials don’t agree on this. HTX’s withdrawal limit announcement dated 2023-02-23 says that within 24 hours, users without identity verification can withdraw 5 BTC and verified users 3000 BTC (HTX withdrawal limit announcement). Yet HTX’s KYC guide says completing L1 basic verification is what “unlocks deposit and withdrawal permissions”; L1 only asks for your nationality, ID number, name and date of birth, L2 requires uploading photos of your ID, and L3 requires facial recognition (HTX personal KYC verification guide). Fee Otter, for its part, says unverified accounts can withdraw 2 BTC a day and there’s no cap after L1. All three figures differ, so go by the limit shown on the withdrawal page once you log in.
How do you confirm your new HTX account is bound?
HTX’s help pages don’t say where regular users can see their own referrer, so the most important step is checking the code in the “Invitation code (optional)” field before you sign up. If you go through a rebate site, bind the new account’s UID on that site; once the binding is approved, the new account is under that site. For other exchanges, see the referral code lookup guide.
How do you switch on HTX through Fee Otter?
- Get an email address or phone number that has never been registered on HTX, and sign up through Fee Otter’s HTX sign-up link htx.com/invite/zh-tc/1h?invite_code=FEEOTTER. The invitation code is
FEEOTTER; expand “Invitation code (optional)” and check it before you submit. - Decide whether to verify your identity on the new account based on your situation (see “One identity can verify only one account” above).
- Sign up for Fee Otter and bind the new account’s UID, not the old account’s. Binding needs only the UID, not your password, verification codes or API keys.
- Copy a deposit address from the new account, withdraw your assets from the old account to it, and trade on the new account from then on.
Fee Otter’s rebate page lists HTX at 50% (30% automatic from the exchange + 20% extra from Fee Otter) (checked 2026-10-11); Fee Otter also notes that this is the futures rate and spot is 45%. The extra portion is paid by Fee Otter, not the exchange, and not Kevin Wu. To use only the referral code without a rebate site, see HTX referral code.
What are the risks of switching on HTX?
- Rebates may be intercepted: HTX’s terms state that rebates for existing users posing as newly invited users will be intercepted. If the new account’s referral commission is intercepted, you may get neither the exchange’s automatic fee rebate nor Fee Otter’s extra rebate.
- Deleting and re-registering isn’t a referral: HTX treats a deleted account that registers again as an invalid referral.
- Fees on the old account aren’t counted retroactively: rebates are only calculated from when the new account starts trading.
- Withdrawal limits: if the new account can’t be verified, go by the withdrawal limit shown on the withdrawal page, and check it before moving large amounts in or out.
- Account security: binding a rebate site needs only your UID. Don’t give your password, verification codes or API keys to anyone who asks for them; for more, see how to spot a rebate scam.
FAQ
Can I change my HTX referral code?
No way to change a referrer can be found in HTX’s official pages. The referral on an old account can’t be changed; if you want to switch, your only option is a new account, along with the conditions and risks above.
Can I add an HTX referral code after signing up?
HTX’s help pages don’t describe any process for adding one later; the invitation code has to be entered in the “Invitation code (optional)” field on the sign-up page. For other exchanges’ deadlines for adding a code, see can you add a referral code after sign-up.
How many HTX accounts can one person verify?
One. HTX states that one identity can verify only one account, and once verification is approved it normally can’t be unbound.
What rebate do I get on HTX after switching?
It depends on which invitation code you use. For the rate through Fee Otter, see “Steps through Fee Otter” above; with HTX custom invitation codes, the friend’s share is set by the referrer and varies from one to another. If a rebate hasn’t arrived, see how to check a missing rebate.
Can I change inviters by deleting my old HTX account and signing up again?
This isn’t recommended. The terms of HTX’s referral reward program state that a deleted account that registers again is treated as an invalid referral and gets no rebate rewards, and rebates for existing users posing as newly invited users are also blocked. For the terms, see “Re-registering after deleting an account isn’t a valid referral” above.
Can a new HTX account withdraw without identity verification?
Go by the limit shown on the withdrawal page after you log in; HTX’s own materials don’t agree on this. HTX’s 2023 withdrawal limit announcement says unverified users can withdraw 5 BTC within 24 hours, yet its KYC guide says completing L1 basic verification is what unlocks deposits and withdrawals. For what each verification level requires, see the HTX identity verification guide.
