How to Switch Your Gate Referral Code: No Adding Later, Ask Support Before Opening an Account With a New Email (2026)

Updated Rules checked 2026-10-11

Gate’s referral rules describe no way to add a referral code after you sign up, and no way to change your referrer. All they state is that each user can be invited to register through only one invitation mode. In other words, your Gate referral relationship is decided at sign-up. If you want a different one for an existing account, the workaround you’ll see online is opening a new account with an email address that has never been registered. Gate doesn’t say whether a second account opened by the same person can count as a referral, and its user agreement has clauses restricting the use of multiple accounts, so it’s best to ask Gate support before you do anything. This guide uses the official rules to go through what you can do in each situation, and the steps for going through Fee Otter.

What are Gate’s official rules on referrals?

  • Only one invitation mode per sign-up: Gate’s referral rules state that each user can be invited to register through only one invitation mode. The same rules state that invitation relationships can’t be linked across sites: if the invitee switches to another site because of the region they select, the invitation relationship can’t be created (Gate referral rules). The rules say nothing about adding or changing a referrer.
  • “Bind within 7 days” is a Gate Wallet rule: the claim you often see online that you can bind an invite code within 7 days comes from the referral campaign for Gate Wallet (Web3), which says the referral code has to be bound within 7 days of creating the wallet (Gate Wallet referral commission guide). It’s about the wallet, not exchange accounts.
  • Identity verification before deposits and withdrawals: Gate’s identity verification FAQ states that you have to complete identity verification before depositing or withdrawing (Gate identity verification FAQ). So a new account still needs identity verification before you can move assets into it. Neither this FAQ nor the web verification guide says how many accounts one ID document can verify; the web guide only states that you must use your own valid ID, not someone else’s, and must not verify on someone else’s behalf (Gate web identity verification guide).
  • The user agreement restricts multiple accounts: in Gate’s user agreement, updated 2026-07-22, clause 10.1(a) lists “using another person’s account or multiple accounts (whether or not registered by, belonging to, or controlled by you)” as prohibited conduct. Clause 8.7(f) states that Gate may suspend, restrict or terminate its services if you take actions that may circumvent platform controls, such as opening multiple accounts or abusing promotions (Gate user agreement).

Case 1: no Gate account yet. How do you bind a referral code?

Open the sign-up page through a referral link and check that the referral code field is filled in before you submit. This is the only point at which you can be sure of being bound to a referrer; once you submit, there’s no official way to add or change one. Also watch the site: if you came in through a link to the Traditional Chinese site, don’t let a region choice during sign-up send you to a different site, or under the official rules the invitation relationship won’t be created. If you only want to use a referral code without a rebate site, see Gate referral code; for what to watch for when signing up in the mobile app, see referral binding when signing up in the app.

Case 2: already have a Gate account. Can you still change referrers?

Whether or not your original account has a referrer, Gate’s official pages show no process for adding or changing one on that account. Here’s what the official rules say about the workarounds you’ll find online.

Opening a new account with an email address that’s never been registered

This is the method Fee Otter’s Gate guide describes: register a new account through an affiliate link with an email address that has never been used on Gate, then move your assets over from the old account. Fee Otter’s guide also says “one KYC document can register up to 5 accounts.” That number can’t be found anywhere in Gate’s official pages. The related rules you can find officially are these:

  • Clause 10.1(a) of the user agreement prohibits using multiple accounts, and clause 8.7(f) lists opening multiple accounts as grounds for suspending or terminating services (see above).
  • A 2023 Gate campaign announcement states that multiple accounts using the same KYC information are treated as one participant (Gate Rewards Hub campaign announcement), and the current “Earn Vouchers” campaign also states that inviting someone who has already completed verification on another account doesn’t count toward the task (Gate Earn Vouchers campaign rules). Both are campaign rules, not referral commission rules, but they show that Gate’s campaigns treat accounts under the same identity information as one person.
  • Gate doesn’t say whether a referral relationship can be created, or whether commission is still paid, when the same person is invited again on a new account.

So if you go this route, the order matters:

  1. Contact Gate support first. Explain that you want to open a new account under the same identity and use a new referral code, and confirm that the new account can pass identity verification and that the referral relationship can be created.
  2. Get an email address that has never been registered on Gate.
  3. Sign up through the new referral link, check that the referral code is filled in before you submit, and don’t switch sites along the way.
  4. Complete identity verification on the new account and copy your UID.
  5. On the old account, close your positions, cancel open orders and redeem any Earn products first, then withdraw your assets to the new account. Test with a small amount first and make sure the coin and network match.

If support says no, or can’t give a clear answer, don’t force it. If the new account is found to violate the multiple-accounts clause, it affects not just your rebates but the account itself.

Other methods

  • Deleting your account and signing up again: Gate’s help center has nothing on signing up again after deleting an account. Clause 8.6(b) of the user agreement says you can contact support to terminate your account or services (Gate user agreement), but it doesn’t say whether you can verify the same identity again and bind a new referrer after termination. If the new account fails verification after you delete the old one, the old account won’t come back either, so this site doesn’t recommend it.
  • Sub-accounts: a Gate sub-account is created and managed under your main account; its VIP level and fee discounts follow the main account, and its trading volume counts toward the main account (Gate sub-account guide). Gate doesn’t say a sub-account can be bound to its own referrer, so opening one isn’t a way to switch.
  • Using a family member’s or someone else’s identity: Gate’s verification guide states that you must not use someone else’s ID or verify on someone else’s behalf, and clause 2.2 of the user agreement states that an account may only be used by the person it’s registered to. Don’t do this.

Some exchanges have an official process for switching referrers or transferring your identity verification. BingX, for example, can move your KYC to an account registered with a new referral code; see how to switch your BingX referral code. No similar process can be found for Gate at the moment.

Does a Gate referrer’s commission have a time limit?

Gate has two programs with different time limits. The “Super Rebate” program for regular users gives a rebate period of one year (Gate referral rules). The FAQ for the affiliate program (Affiliate Ultra) says that rebates have no time limit as long as the invitation relationship hasn’t been terminated (Gate affiliate FAQ). The same FAQ also states that trades by users at VIP 11 or above don’t generate commission, and neither do trades by users under review (Gate affiliate FAQ); the review period starts when the system detects dishonest behavior (Gate affiliate FAQ).

How do you confirm your Gate referral code is bound?

Gate’s 2023 referral program announcement states that once an invitee’s trade is completed, the rebate goes to the spot account automatically, usually instantly, or within 1–2 hours in special cases. To check it, go to Wallet – Transaction History – Filter – Commission – Referral Rebate Income (Gate referral program upgrade announcement). If you can see this entry after the new account’s first trade, the referral relationship has been created. If you use a rebate site, also bind your UID there and check whether its system confirms you’re under its referral code. If you’re still not sure, you can give your UID to Gate support and ask them to check. For other exchanges, see the referral code lookup guide.

How do you bind Gate through Fee Otter?

  1. If you don’t have an account yet, go straight to the next step; if you already have one, ask Gate support first, as described in “Case 2” above.
  2. Sign up through Fee Otter’s Gate sign-up link, gate.com/zh-tw/share/FEEOTTER. The referral code is FEEOTTER; check the field before you submit.
  3. Complete Gate’s identity verification and copy your UID.
  4. Sign up for Fee Otter and bind your UID on the member page. Binding needs only your UID, not your password, a verification code or an API key.

Fee Otter’s rebate page lists Gate at 70% for futures (a 20% automatic fee rebate from the exchange plus a 50% extra rebate from Fee Otter) and 65% for spot (checked 2026-10-11). The 20% is returned by Gate automatically to your spot account; the extra rebate is paid by Fee Otter, not the exchange, and not Kevin Wu.

What are the risks of changing referrers on Gate?

  • Past fees aren’t counted retroactively: rebates are calculated only once you start trading on the new account; fees already paid on the old account can’t be recovered.
  • The multiple-accounts clause: the user agreement prohibits using multiple accounts, and opening multiple accounts is also grounds for suspending or terminating services. Gate doesn’t say whether a new account opened by the same person is an exception, so ask support first.
  • The referral relationship may not be created: Gate doesn’t say how it handles the same person being invited again, and trades made during a review period don’t generate commission.
  • Moving assets carries a risk of mistakes: if you pick the wrong coin or network, your assets may be unrecoverable; test with a small amount first.
  • Commission may be canceled for violations: exchanges handle wash trading and promotion abuse differently; see rules for canceled rebates.

FAQ

Can I change my Gate referral code?

Gate’s official pages show no process for changing referrers. Gate’s referral rules only state that each user can be invited to register through only one invitation mode, so the referral relationship is set at sign-up.

Can I add a Gate referral code after signing up?

No add-later process can be found in Gate’s official pages. The common “bind within 7 days” claim is a Gate Wallet (Web3) rule and doesn’t apply to exchange accounts. For other exchanges’ deadlines for adding a code, see can you add a referral code after sign-up.

How many Gate accounts can one KYC open?

That number can’t be found in Gate’s official pages. The “up to 5” claim online comes from a rebate site, not a Gate announcement, and Gate’s user agreement actually has a clause prohibiting the use of multiple accounts. If you want to open a second account, ask Gate support first.

How much rebate will I get after switching?

It depends on the referral code you use. With Fee Otter’s referral code, Fee Otter’s rebate page lists 70% for futures (a 20% automatic fee rebate from the exchange plus a 50% extra rebate from Fee Otter) and 65% for spot (checked 2026-10-11); for the rate with the referral code alone, see Gate referral code. If you trade high volumes, note that trades by users at VIP 11 or above don’t generate commission; for VIP cases, see VIP referral rebates.

Do I need to give my password or an API key to switch?

No. You complete the sign-up yourself on Gate’s official page, and a rebate site only needs your UID. Never give anyone who asks for your password, a verification code or an API key; see how to spot a rebate scam.

Each exchange’s switching rules are in the guide to switching referral codes, and all referral codes are listed in the exchange referral code overview. If you don’t receive rebates after switching, check how to check a missing rebate, and to compare rebate sites, see how to choose a rebate site.
